Volume 1 - 1st printing. "June 1952 to March 1953!" Collects Tales of Terror (1952 Toby) #1 and Tales of Horror (1952-1954 Toby/Minoan) #1-4.

Toby Press was a small but respectable comics publisher, which also used the imprint Minoan; they put out one issue of Tales of Terror, then got hit by a cease-and-desist order from E.C., which used that title for their annuals. Toby dropped that and started over with Tales of Horror, which ran thirteen issues. Toby may be the only comics publisher to swipe the urbane and cynical stories of John Collier, rather than relying on Poe, Lovecraft, and the like.

Volume 2 - 1st printing. "August 1953 to April 1954!" Collects Tales of Horror (1952-1954 Toby/Minoan) #5-9.
Small is beautiful and don't let anyone tell you different. Case in point, Toby Press, which also used the imprint Minoan and found fame (of a sort) by getting their knuckles rapped by the EC crew for using Gaines & Co.'s title "Tales of Terror." But they didn't need to pilfer from others with Tales of Horror, the (retitled) magazine's noteworthy homage to the likes of prose stylist John Collier. So take a bow guys, we're in the presence of greatness. Let's all doff our beanies to Moe Marcus, Ben Brown, Bernard Baily, Frank Giacoia, Rocco Mastroserio, Jack Sparling, Mel Keefer, Howard Rosenberger, Bill Molno and George Olesen, heroes one and all.

Volume 3 - 1st printing. "April to October 1954!" Collects Tales of Horror (1952-1954 Toby/Minoan) #10-13 and The Black Knight (1953 Toby Press) #1.
Coming from Toby Press just a couple of years shy of Showcase #4 and the whole industry getting turned on its head, the third PS volume of Toby's Tales of Horror includes a bonus comicbook, 1953's debut issue of The Black Knight. This one has just got to be one of the absolute best covers from the Golden/Silver Age, and the interiors are pretty nifty, too with the roster of artists and writers including Ben Brown, David Gantz, Chas Kuhn, Art Helfant, Medio Iorio, Ernest Schroeder, Sal Trapani, Al Gordon, and H.L. Larsen.
