"Who was Roy Krenkel?" by Angelo Torres - A remembrance of the late, great fantasy artist by one of his closest friends and fellow Fleagle artist who met him in 1954 at the Cartoonists and Illustrators School in New York City. "How I met Roy Krenkel"by Al Williamson - Here's the interesting story of how the two fantasy artists first met and became close friends in 1948. It was Roy who introduced Al to many of the great Golden Age illustrators and showed him how to collect. Eventually the two worked on many comic jobs together, including a few for EC. "When Dominoes Fall....the Death of Max Gaines" by Roger Hill - When Max Gaines and Sam Irwin died tragically in a boat accident on Lake Placid in August of 1947, the Educational Comics Company took a different path from what had come before. We present the results of our research, not only with an account of what happened that fateful day, but also with newspaper clippings, photos, and an interview with the only survivor of that accident, an 8 year old boy named Bill Irwin. Bill's sister took a photo that morning as the boat pulled out from the dock. It was the last photo ever taken of Max Gaines See it here for the first time ever. "Fritz is in the House - Fiction House" by Robert R. Barrett - presenting another ground-breaking article on the early comics career of Frank Frazetta. Fiction House was a publisher of some of the most action-packed and risqué comics ever produced during the Golden Age of Comics. In the short time that Frazetta worked there, he created some pages that never got published. We have the pages and the details about his involvement with this popular publisher. "Checking in with Sid Check - part 2" by Roger Hill - This is the final installment of our detailed look at the artist who left an indelible mark on the comic's scene of the 1950s. From Avon to EC to Charlton, Check made his mark in comics and rubbed shoulders with artists like Wally Wood, Frank Frazetta and other great talents of the industry. He left behind a defaulted storage unit filled with comic books, art, old Photostats and other relics of his life and career. This part 2 of our article wraps up an exhaustive look at Sid Check and his accomplishments, and includes a checklist of his work. 74 pages, PC/B&W.
