Evel Knievel was a high-flying daredevil, the father of extreme sports, the personification of excitement and danger and showmanship . . . and in the 1970s Knievel represented a unique slice of American culture and patriotism. His jump over the fountains at Caesar's Palace led to a crash unlike anything ever seen on television, and his attempt to rocket over Snake River Canyon in Idaho was something only P. T. Barnum could have orchestrated.
The dazzling motorcycles and red-white-and-blue outfits became an integral part of an American decade. Knievel looked like Elvis . . . but on any given Saturday afternoon millions tuned in to the small screen to see this real-life action hero tempt death. But behind the flash and the frenzy, who was the man? Bestselling author Leigh Montville masterfully explores the life of the complicated man from the small town of Butte, Montana.
He delves into Knievel's amazing place in pop culture, as well as his notorious dark side - and his complex and often contradictory relationships with his image, the media, his own family, and his many demons. Evel Knievel's story is an all-American saga, and one that is largely untold.
Leigh Montville once again delivers a definitive biography of a one-of-a-kind sports legend.

1st printing. Written by Paul Young. Art by Frank Miller. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, writer-artist Frank Miller turned Daredevil from a tepid-selling comic into an industry-wide success story. Frank Miller's Daredevil and the Ends of Heroism is both a rigorous study of Miller's artistic influences and innovations and a reflection on how his visionary work on Daredevil impacted generations of comics publishers, creators, and fans. Paul Young explores the accomplishments of Miller the writer, who fused hardboiled crime stories with superhero comics, while reimaging Kingpin (a classic Spider-Man nemesis), recuperating the half-baked villain Bullseye, and inventing a completely new kind of Daredevil villain in Elektra. Volume 1 - 1st printing. Collects Daredevil (1964-1998 1st Series) #1-11.
Written by Stan Lee and Wallace Wood. Art by Bill Everett, Joe Orlando, and Bob Powell. Cover by Jack Kirby and Bill Everet.
Born to a past-his-prime prizefighter, Matt Murdock's luck always ran a step behind his good intentions. When a daring act to save a man's life results in an accident that blinds young Murdock, he finds that the same accident has enhanced his remaining sense to super-human levels. After his father's murder those powers make him Daredevil, the protector of the New York's mean streets.
Launched in 1964, Stan Lee and Bill Everett's Daredevil debut was as gritty as they came, a tale of murder and sacrifice tempered with the desire to protect the downtrodden. Matt Murdock was someone different, and you'll see just why in his inaugural Marvel Masterworks! Featuring the first appearances of core characters like Foggy Nelson and Karen Page, as well as classic villains like the Owl, the Purple Man, Stilt-Man and Electro, and guest-appearances by the Fantastic Four and the Sub-Mariner, they're classics as only Stan Lee made them! With artwork by the incomparable Wallace Wood and Joe Orlando, I dare you not to reserve your copy today!
