Volume 1 - 1st printing. "Los Tejanos and The Lost Cause!". Story and Art by Jack Jackson. After creating what many consider the first underground comic, God Nose, in 1964 and co-founding Rip-Off Press in 1969, Jack Jackson began writing and drawing short historical comics about Texas history. Fantagraphics is proud to bring his graphic histories back into print, beginning with this first volume, reprinting two of his long-form histories: Los Tejanos, which chronicles the Texas-Mexican war between 1835 and 1875, and Lost Cause, which documents the violent reaction to Reconstruction by Texans. Jackson's work is as known for its rigorous research as for its chiseled, raw-boned visual approach, reproducing the time and place with an uncanny verisimilitude. Hardcover, 320 pages, B&W Cover price $35.00.

Written by Nancy Goldstein. Art by Jacjie Ormes.
At a time of few opportunities for African American women, Jackie Ormes (1911-1985) blazed a trail as a popular cartoonist with the major black newspapers of the day. Her comic strips Torchy Brown and Patty-Jo 'n' Ginger provide an invaluable glimpse into American culture and history, with topics that include racial segregation, U.S. foreign policy, educational equality, and other pressing issues of the times-and of today's world as well.
This biography, recognized as a "Best Book" by the Village Voice and with "Best Book" citations in three Booklist categories, features a large sampling of Ormes's cartoons and comic strips.

Krazy Little Comics (1967 Topps): Jester's League of America is one of sixteen parody mini-comics originally produced as test market items in 1967, by the Topps Chewing Gum Company. They did not see full national distribution. All were written by Roy Thomas and feature Wally Wood cover and interior art. These minis spoof not only Marvel and DC super-heroes, but other comic characters as well, like the Phantom, Prince Valiant, and Tarzan. These possibly predate, or are at least contemporaneous with, Not Brand Ecch! #1 (08/1967), and are among the rarest of the Merry Marvel Marching Society era items. Full color, 2.5-in. x 3.5-in., no cover price.

1st printing. By Paul Buhle. Readers have long cherished the work of comic masters such as Will Eisner, Jules Feiffer, and Art Spiegelman, all of whom happen to be Jewish. Few, however, are probably aware that the Jewish role in creating the American comic art form is no less significant than the Jewish influence on Hollywood filmmaking. Filled with the most stunning examples of this vital artistic tradition, Jews and American Comics tells us how the people of the book became the people of the comic book. With three brief essays by Paul Buhle, the well-known historian of American Jewish life, Jews and American Comics offers readers a pictorial backstory tracing Jewish involvement in comic art from several little-known strips in Yiddish newspapers of the early twentieth century through the mid-century origins of the modern comic book and finally to contemporary comic art, which has at last found its place in museums, in private collections, and on the bookshelves of both critics and millions of avid readers. Featuring more than two hundred examples of the work of Jewish comic artists going back a century—much of which has been unavailable to the general public for decades—this extraordinary collection will be a major contribution to Jewish and American cultural history. Jews and American Comics is also a gorgeous package, sure to be treasured by comic art lovers and fans of Jewish culture—and destined to become the bar and bat mitzvah gift of the decade. Hardcover, 9 1/2-in. x 9 1/2-in., 196 pages, B&W. Cover price $29.95.

Updated Edition - 1st printing. By David Gantz. Jews in America is a graphic history that uses the comic book format - an artistic expression as American as jazz - to depict five centuries of Jewish life in this country. With its blend of humor, history, and old-fashioned sentimentality, Gantz, an artist who has spent a lifetime using paper and ink to present social commentary and issues with wry wit, illustrates the prominence of Jews in American history from the time Columbus first set foot in the New World until the present day. Softcover, 10-in. x 12-in., full color. Cover price $28.00.

1st printing. By Seth Grahame-Smith. Seth Grahame-Smith returns to his vampire/horror/history roots in The Last American Vampire, the follow-up to Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Seth takes the sweeping, Howard Zinn approach to tell the alternative vampire history of 20th century America, as seen through the eyes of the vampire Henry Sturges, Abe's teacher. In Reconstruction-era America, Henry is searching for renewed purpose in the wake of his friend Abraham Lincoln's shocking death. Seth Grahame-Smith ingeniously weaves vampire history through Russia's October Revolution, the First and Second World Wars, and the JFK assassination. The final, elegiac act ends in 2001 with the vampire species in steep decline, and a world-weary Henry retreating from civilization. Hardcover, 6-in. x 9-in., 416 pages, Text Only. Cover price $27.00.
