1st printing. Written by Carl Benn and Daniel Marston. Foreword by Fred Anderson. At the beginning of the 18th century, America was a colonized land with European countries squabbling over its many natural resources. In 1754, the French-Indian War broke out as a decisive battle between the French and British for control of North America. Britain's victory led to greater governmental involvement in the American colonies that developed into rebellion in 1775. Following the American Revolution, the USA and Britain shared an uneasy peace that erupted in war again in 1812; the ensuing conflict tore through the American frontier. This book examines the wars in North America from the French-Indian War until the end of the War of 1812, which brought lasting peace between Britain and the United States. Softcover, 288 pages, Text (with B&W Photos). Cover price $24.95.

Written by Todd James Pierce. Art by Ward Kimball.
Besides Walt Disney, no one seemed more key to the development of animation at the Disney Studios than Ward Kimball (1914-2002), Kimball was Disney's friend and confidant.
In this engaging, cradle-to-grave biography, award-winning author Todd James Pierce explores the life of Ward Kimball, a lead Disney animator who worked on characters such as Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Jiminy Cricket, the Cheshire Cat, and the Mad Hatter. Through unpublished excerpts from Kimball's personal writing, material from unpublished interviews, and new information based on interviews conducted by the author, Pierce defines the life of perhaps the most influential animator of the twentieth century.

1st printing. Art and cover by Alberto Vargas. Alberto Vargas took over Esquire magazine's monthly pin-up post in late 1940. By 1942, when the U.S. joined the war, he had more than a million ardent fans who carried his pin-ups in backpacks and duffel bags as reminders of the American girls they'd left behind. When Esquire was charged with obscenity over a particularly spicy pin-up the military stepped in the fight for The Vargas Girl, declaring her necessary for morale. Today these wartime pin-ups are the most collectible of Vargas' work, and we've collected them all in this compact, affordable 192-page volume. Softcover (Flexibound), 5-in. x 7-in., 192 pages, full color. Cover price $9.99.

Finally collected by IT'S ALIVE! and co-published with Dark Horse, The Lonely War of Capt. Willy Schultz was originally serialized in the comic book Fightin' Army in the 1960s.

An American solider of German heritage finds himself on the wrong side of World War II in this sweeping epic. This war story is, at its heart, an antiwar story and a story about universal human nature in the hellhole of war.

By Chris Smith. Foreword by Christopher Lee.
Lavishly illustrated with 1,000 photos, paintings, maps, sculptures and sketches, most appearing here for the first time, Weapons and Warfare is an indispensable chronicle of The Lord of the Rings' many creatures, warriors, armies and battlegrounds. From the graceful and proficient Elves to the horrendous war machines of the Dark Lord, each culture's approach to warfare is explained - how they fought, why they were fighting, what armor they wore and what weapons they used against their enemies. Now you can get as close to a marauding Orc as you could ever wish, without suffering the consequences!
Treating the filmmakers' notes, designs and props as a true archive, Weapons and Warfare describes in detail every major conflict depicted in the film trilogy - from The Last Alliance of Elves and Men to the climactic Battle of the Pelennor Fields - each accompanied by a battle diagram from the films' chief designers.
Armed with a wealth of fascinating facts and unique imagery, and with an exclusive foreword by Christopher Lee and an introduction by the Academy Award winner Richard Taylor, Weapons and Warfare promises to be the most striking companion to The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy published to date.

1st printing. Written by Stephen Allen. To the classical civilizations of Greece and Rome, the Celtic warrior of the late Iron Age was the archetypal barbarian: savage, undisciplined, and bloodthirsty. In a clash of cultures that lasted almost 500 years, the rich and vibrant society in which he lived, fought, and died was virtually destroyed, becoming the stuff of myth and legend. Covering the period from the first mention of the Celts by ancient Greek writers to the Roman conquest of Britain, this book examines the Celtic warrior, his society and his place within it, and the conflicts that would eventually destroy his world. Beautifully illustrated with many examples of Celtic art and craftsmanship, this book provides a fascinating insight into a culture whose legacy has endured to the present day. Hardcover, 7 1/2-in. x 10-in., 224 pages, Text (with Color and B&W photos). Cover price $29.95.

Includes 2 Exclusive Trading Cards - 1st printing. By Ray W. Murrill. In 1962, at the height of the cold war, the Brooklyn-based Topps Chewing Gum Company released a set of trading cards that combined a classic, H.G. Wells-style alien invasion with the graphic atrocities of war. The result were the legendary Mars Attacks cards, and the reaction was immediate. National uproar: Deemed too gruesome for innocent young minds, the cards were quickly suppressed. But even as they disappeared from the market, their cult status grew. . . and grew. Finally, in 1995, Topps re-released the set, adding new--and equally gruesome--cards. The invasion began anew, leading to comic books, novels, a major motion picture deal (with Tim Burton directing), and other insidious means by which the Martian wave would spread across the land. In War Dogs of the Golden Horde, the mayhem escalates to a global scale. Martian armies invade Mongolia--only to discover that the descendants of Genghis Khan are as fierce and warlike as the legendary conqueror. The merciless will win the day. The question is, who is more savage: Mongol or Martian? Hardcover, 6-in. x 9-in., 244 pages, Text Only. Cover price $18.00.

1st printing. By Kevin Michael Scott. Marvel Comics has a tradition of addressing relevant real-life issues facing the American public. With the publication of Civil War (2006-2007), they focused on contemporary anxieties such as terrorism and threats to privacy and other civil liberties. This collection of essays explores the Civil War series and its tie-in titles from the perspectives of history, political science, sociology, psychology, literary criticism, law, philosophy and education. The contributors provide a close reading of the series' main theme - the appropriate balance between freedom and security - and discuss how that balance affects citizenship, race, gender and identity construction in 21st-century America. Softcover, 240 pages, Text. Cover price $40.00.
