Boy Who Loved Batman HC (2011 Chronicle Books) 1-1ST

    1st printing.

    By Michael E. Uslan.

When he was 8, Michael Uslan fell in love with Batman. He watched unhappily as the dark, serious superhero he knew and loved was turned into a campy goofball in the '60s TV show starring Adam West, and in 1979 he purchased the film rights to Batman. After ten years of desperately pitching a film that no one wanted, he sold and then produced Tim Burton's critically acclaimed and phenomenally popular Batman.

Having produced every Batman film to date, Uslan recounts his story here, in a memoir that will draw in all the boys and girls (of all ages) throughout the world who love Batman.

    Hardcover, 320 pages, full color.

    Cover price $29.95.

Love and Rockets The Sketchbooks HC (2024 Fantagraphics) 1-1ST

    (see more images)

1st printing. BY Gilbert Hernandez and, Jaime Hernandez. Both Gilbert and Jaime Hernandez developed their skills as artists in public, in the pages of Love and Rockets, and as quickly as any artists ever have. The first issue showed two promising young tyros; by the fourth, both brothers were clearly among the foremost cartoonists of their generation. But not all of that development took place on the main stage of their shared magazine. They built up to their 1981 self-published debut with years of experiments, fan art, zine illustrations, early short comics, and gig posters, and continued to work out in personal sketchbooks after establishing themselves as the preeminent cartoonists they became. Fantagraphics published two volumes of this nascent or private drawing in 1989 and 1992. Now, this deluxe hardcover collects the work from these two volumes with other rarely-seen artwork for a new generation of admirers. It's presented as a dual-sided flip book with one cover, and one half of the book, featuring Jaime's work and a second cover, and other half of the book, highlighting Gilbert's work. The Hernandez Brothers mastery of comics is seen on every page of the thousands of pages of Love and Rockets theyve drawn over the last 40 years. Here, for the first time in three decades, see the work they put into becoming those artists. Hardcover, 10-in. x 13-in., 300 pages, B&W. Mature Readers Cover price $75.00.

This volume continues the career of B-movie actress Fritz, who first appeared in the Love & Rockets graphic novels. In this "movie", a beautiful waitress and her brother visit their estranged father in order to find out why their mother committed suicide. The story weaves in and out of reality and possibly back in forth in time. To complicate things further, the sister is sexually obsessed with a mysterious man throughout the tale - or is it her brother? And that's only the tip of the iceberg. Hardcover, 5 1/2-in. x 8-in., 120 pages, B&W. Mature Readers Cover price $19.99.

This exciting tale, written by Frederic Brremaud, is told without narration or dialogue, conveyed entirely through the beautiful illustrations of Federico Bertolucci. Both heartwarming and heartbreaking, this volume focuses on a solitary Lion as it wanders the plains of Africa, handling the daily hunt, and vicious rivalry, without a Pride of its own. The circle of Life takes center stage in a world where predator and prey trade places on a regular basis, and Family is something worth fighting - and dying - for.
