A Day at the Beach TPB (2005 AM) The Ninth Sherman's Lagoon Collection 1-1ST

    1st printing.

Story and art by Jim Toomey.

Sherman the dim-witted shark and his cast of characters in Sherman's Lagoon provide enough laughs for a barrel of monkeys, not that they've ever seen any. The Lagoonies, as they're known to regular comic strip readers, are a motley crew—mostly of sea life—known for their acerbic humor.

There's Megan, Sherman's wife (a soft-touch despite the tough exterior). Fillmore the sea turtle makes up for Sherman's lack of intellect. Hawthorne the hermit crab resides in a beer can and is always in a "crabby" mood. Ernest the fish is a computer whiz, and Thornton the polar bear stumbled upon the island while floating by on an iceberg. Captain Quigley is the only human (or "beach ape") who resides in Sherman's Lagoon. He lost his leg to Sherman and is now out for revenge, but never quite gets close enough. To round out the cast there's Bob the bottom dweller. Enough said.

    Softcover, 8 1/2-in. x 9-in., 128 pages, B&W.

    Cover price $10.95.

Barbarossa and the Lost Corsairs (2005) 1

by Brian Augustyn, H.S. Park, Transparency Digital In a wild adventure that spans the universe from the high seas of our world in the Middle Ages to an extra dimensional realm of deadly monsters, strange civilizations and wild science, the exciting series stars the historical, red-bearded pirate known as Barbarossa and his crew of rowdy privateers. Along with the Countess Julia of Fondi ? a "captive" of great beauty and greater thirst for excitement, Barbarossa and his men struggle to survive this impossible new world. Finding their way home is the goal to be sure, but not before the freebooters take their fill of thrilling adventure and fabulous treasure! After Lady Julia talks ? and fights ? her way aboard Barbarossa's Corsair ship, her father dispatches an armada to bring her back. When the heavily armed galleons chase the swift Corsairs into the eye of a powerful typhoon, it looks as if Barbarossa's dreams of adventure will be dashed to pieces along with his ship. Incredibly, however, the astonished crew finds themselves sailing out of the storm and into a strange new world-- and, it seems, to safety. When a monster as big as ten whales explodes up from the depths of the sea, safety and sanity may be a thing of the past. 40pgs, FC SRP: $3.50 Cover price $3.50.
