In 1814, the British captured Washington and burned the White House, then marched on Baltimore. As the British bombarded Ft. McHenry, Francis Scott Key wrote the Star-Spangled Banner. The Star-Spangled Banner was officially adopted as our national anthem on March 31, 1931 by an act of Congress. The full words to the Star-Spangled Banner are printed on the back cover.
