Loosely based on Shakespeare's The Tempest, MGM's lavishly produced Forbidden Planet (1956) is a true sci-fi classic, influencing countless other works, including Star Trek and 2001: A Space Odyssey. Starring Leslie Nielson as Commander J.J. Adams and Anne Francis as the daughter of Dr. Morbius, the film made a star of Robby the Robot, who is featured on the cover of the first installment of this official comic book adaptation. The issue ends with the introduction of Altaira. She doesn't look much like Anne Francis, but the art as a whole is very nice. Script by David Campiti, with adaptation and painted art by Daerick Gross. Includes essay "A Beacon in the Galaxy" by Steve "Mr. Movie" Friedman. Cover price $2.50.

Cover by Ogden Whitney. Edited by Richard E. Hughes. Art by Ogden Whitney, John Forte and Emil Gershwin. Cover by Ogden Whitney. A new era begins for the formerly straight-faced science-fiction anthology from legendary early independent comics publisher ACG. This issue introduces a rotund, bespectacled kid named Herbie who cares for nothing but his lollipop. Nevertheless, he can fly, talk to animals, intimidate alien invaders, consult with world leaders, and charm any woman. He also manages to save a shipwrecked U.S. Senator. Thus is born one of the great unheralded heroes of 1950s comics. Also, a theater agent insults the wrong stage magician; A WWII fighter pilot gets shot down and finds himself on board a pirate ship in the distant past.
