Osprey Aircraft of the Aces SC (1994) 64-1ST
    • Discounted from $9.00.

Volume 64 - 1st printing. "Yakovlev Aces of World War 2 !" Written by George Mellinger. Art by Jim Laurier. The Yak-1 entered Soviet service in 1941, one of three modern types of aircraft accepted for production just prior to the German invasion of the USSR. Despite initial shortcomings, it soon proved to be the thoroughbred of the Soviet Airforce. Indeed, it remained in production until the end of the war, modernized but fundamentally recognizable. By VE-day about 33,100 Yakovlev fighters had been built. Virtually all Soviet fighter regiments flew at least one variety of Yak for a time, including those which gained their fame identified with other aircraft, and consequently many pilots known as Airacobra or Lavochkin aces also scored victories with the Yak. Many other famous aces were exclusively 'Yak patriots', including the French Normandie pilots. This book focuses on the Soviet aces who scored all, or most of their victories in the Yak, drawing informaion from official unit histories and memoirs of the Soviet pilots themselves. Softcover, 96 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $22.95.

Volume 12 - 1st printing. "US Special Warfare Units in the Pacific Theater 1941-45!" By Gordon L Rottman. The bitter fighting in the Pacific Theater required new forms of warfare, and the gathering of detailed intelligence information on the remote and varied islands and their determined defenders. As a result, new scout, raider and reconnaissance units were formed?the pioneers of today's special forces. Some units were small, while others comprised thousands of men. All contributed significantly to the war effort. This book examines a wide range of PTO special-warfare units, including the Alaskan and Alamo scouts, 5217th/1st Recon Battalion, Marine Amphibious Recon and Raider units, Amphibious Scouts, and 6th Ranger Battalion. Softcover, 96 pages, PC/PB&W Cover price $25.95.

Volume 125 - 1st printing. "Samurai Commanders Part 1!" Written by Stephen Turnbull. Art by Richard Hook. The samurai were the military elite of medieval and early modern Japan, and the men who led them were hailed as the very greatest, most heroic and most honourable of all samurai warriors. This first of two books examines the lives, equipment, battles and wider roles of the samurai commanders between 940 and 1576, the period from the emergence of the samurai to the triumph of Oda Nobunaga, who set Japan on the road to reunification. The styles of armour and weaponry of the samurai changed considerably during this time and this book visually recreates some of the most famous samurai commanders. Softcover, 64 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $18.95.

Volume 126 - 1st printing. "Siege Warfare in the Roman World!" Written by Duncan B Campbell. Art by Adam Hook. Sieges were often pivotal in Rome's wars, including its conflicts with the Macedonians and Carthaginians in the 2nd century BC; the civil wars of the Republic; and the late Roman wars against the Sassanid Persians, who, alone amongst Rome's adversaries, were equally skilled in siegecraft. This book discusses the siege techniques employed by Roman armies and their opponents throughout the Republic and Empire. It shows that although the 1st century AD has long been considered the golden age of siegecraft, followed by a decline, new and effective siege techniques were in fact used in the following centuries. Softcover, 64 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $18.95.

Volume 29 - 1st printing. "Forts of the American Frontier 1820-91!" Written by Gordon L Rottman. Art by Ian Palmer. The US Army and Marine Corps in World War II considered themselves highly mobile, offensive forces. Their mobile-warfare doctrine envisioned field fortifications and obstacles as temporary in nature. As a result, their design was simple and made use of local materials, and they could be constructed comparatively quickly, whilst still providing adequate protection. By the time of the Korean War, only minor changes had been made to field fortification construction and layout, and to small-unit organization, weapons, and tactics. This title addresses field fortifications built by US infantrymen during World War II and in Korea, and covers rifle-platoon positions, trenches, crew-served weapon positions, bunkers, dugouts, shelters, observation posts and anti-tank obstacles. Softcover, 64 pages, PC/PB&W Cover price $18.95.

Volume 405 - 1st printing. "Napoleon's Carabiniers!" Written by Ronald Pawly. Art by Patrice Courcelle. The two privileged regiments of Carabiniers survived the French Revolution with their elite status intact. They covered themselves with glory at Austerlitz, Friedland, Ratisbonne and Wagram - where their bloody losses shocked Napoleon into ordering them new helmets and cuirasses. Re-formed after near annihilation in Russia in 1812, they fought at Leipzig and in many actions of the 1814 French campaign, and made one of the final charges at Waterloo. lllustrated with rare early prints and meticulous colour reconstructions, this book details their story, and their unique uniforms, from surviving period documents. Softcover, PC/PB&W.

Volume 92- 1st printing. "US Marine Corps Tank Crewman 1941-45!" Written by Kenneth W Estes. Art by Howard Gerrard. The ferocity of the Pacific war almost defied the available military technology. In this environment the evolving use of tanks by the US Marine Corps played a significant role; at the end of the Battle of Okinawa, Major General Lemuel Shepherd wrote in his report that 'if any one supporting arm can be singled out as having contributed more than any others during the progress of the campaign, the tank would certainly be selected.' This book traces the history of the US Marine Corps tank crewman, including the significant changes in doctrine, equipment, and organization that the war brought, and his experience fighting in the Pacific theater. Softcover, 64 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $18.95.

1st printing. Story and Art by Richard Sala. The book follows five college students, survivors of the dark force of a powerful evil, when they are summoned by someone seven years after a dastardly event, to defeat the evil again. Sala has gained a devoted following over the years as a master of a unique brand of quirky horror and dark humor. This book features several characters from his Peculia tales - stories which revolve around a mysterious waif-like girl, her very strange acquaintances, and her tendency, through no fault of her own, to find herself facing a variety of awful creatures and ghastly goings-on. For years, Sala has promised his readers a full-length Peculia novel that would shed some light on the background of the intrepid young wanderer, and they won't be disappointed. No previous exposure to any of Sala's stories is necessary, however. In fact, anyone who likes a little chuckle with their chills, anyone who enjoys curling up with tales of vampires and other things that go bump in the night, will want to get their claws on this book. • Issue #7-1ST
Prince of Tennis GN (2004-2011 Digest) 7-1ST
    • Discounted from $2.50.

Volume 7 - 1st printing. Story and art by Takeshi Konomi. Fresh from winning four consecutive U.S. Junior tournaments, The Prince of Tennis Ryoma Echizen has enrolled at Seishun Academy. With undeniable skill and talent-not to mention a shameless cockiness that irks even the most seasoned adults-Ryoma steps up to the challenge of leading his team to the Nationals! As the road to the Nationals narrows, Seishun Academy squares off with Saint Rudolph. Through the maneuverings of Hajime, Saint Rudolph's cunning manager, Ryoma gets matched up with Yuta-known to many as "Lefty Killer". With an unorthodox game laced with reverse spins and angles, Yuta's game ignites against the seemingly inexperienced-against-lefties Ryoma. Meanwhile, the Seishun doubles tandem of Eiji and Shuichiro assume the Australian formation to break a tie. Is this a desperate attempt to win, or a well-calculated strategy? Softcover, 5-in. x 7-in., 192 pages, B&W. NOTE: These are Japanese manga-style GNs and are meant to be read right-to-left. Cover price $7.99.
