  • Issue #83-1ST
New Vanguard SC (1993 Osprey Military) 83-1ST

Volume 83 - 1st printing. "Armored Units of the Russian Civil War!" Written by David Bullock and Alexander Deryabin. Art by Andrei Aksenov. One of the most important conflicts of the 20th century, the Russian Civil War was the struggle that led to the formation of the Soviet Union. Following the overthrow of the Russian Provisional Government on 7 November 1917, the All-Russian Congress of Soviets met and handed over power to the Soviet Council of People's Commissars. Immediately forces began to assemble in opposition to the Bolshevik regime, and these became known as the Whites. This title examines the armour that they had at their disposal throughout the course of the war. It was a varied collection including British and French vehicles and, perhaps most famously, the armoured trains that enabled the Whites to dominate much of Siberia. Softcover, 48 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $17.95.

Volume 124 - 1st printing. "Fair Oaks 1862!" Written by Angus Konstam. Art by Steve Noon. Following its humiliating defeat at the First Battle of Bull Run, General George B. McClellan took command of the Union Army of the Potomac. In the spring of 1862, having rebuilt his forces, the Little Napoleon devised a plan to end the war in a single campaign. Transporting his army by sea to the Virginia Peninsula, he would outflank Confederate forces and march unopposed on Richmond, the Southern capital. Excessive caution squandered the opportunity, however, and on 31 May the Confederates struck at McClellan's divided forces at Fair Oaks. This book details McClellan's controversial Peninsula campaign and the southern attempt to halt the Union juggernaut. Softcover, 96 pages, PC/PB&W Cover price $19.95.

  • Issue #40-1ST
Osprey Combat Aircraft Series SC (1997-2011 OSPREY) 40-1ST

Volume 40 - 1st printing. "PBJ Mitchell Units of the Pacific War!" Written by Jerry Scutts. Art by Jim Laurier. Flown exclusively by the US Marines, the PBJ was one of those rare examples of an air force type being procured by the navy due to its ability to do exactly the job that was required of it. Bought as a land-based patrol bomber for operations in the Atlantic and Pacific, the PBJ (Patrol, Bomber, North American) was kitted out to hunt down submarines as well as surface vessels. Identical to its air force counterpart, except for its ability to lay mines, deploy depth charges and launch torpedoes, some 706 PBJs were delivered to the Marine Corps from 1943-45. This book outlines the aircraft's history and technology, and takes a closer look at the men who flew it. Softcover, 98 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $22.95.

Osprey Combat Aircraft Series SC (1997-2011 OSPREY) 42-1ST

This book is the story of a majestic bomber of the propeller era flying perilous combat missions against a sleek, nimble warplane of the jet age, the Soviet MiG-15. A very heavy bomber and a sky giant during World War 2, at that time the B-29 was the most advanced combat aircraft in the world. By the time North Korea attacked its southern neighbour in 1950, the B-29 had been reclassified a medium bomber. Many of its crew members had fought their war and settled down to raise families and begin careers only to be recalled to fight another war on a distant Asian peninsula. Softcover, 98 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $22.95.

  • Issue #72-1ST
Osprey Warrior Series SC (1993-2011 OSPREY) 72-1ST

Volume 72- 1st printing. "Imperial Roman Legionary AD 161-284!" Written by Ross Cowan. Art by Angus McBride. Between AD 161 and 244 the Roman legions were involved in wars and battles on a scale not seen since the late Republic. Legions were destroyed in battle, disbanded for mutiny and rebellion and formed to wage wars of conquest and defence. This volume explores the experience of the imperial legionary, concentrating on Legio II Parthica. Raised by the emperor Septimus Severus in AD 193/4, it was based at Albanum near Rome and as the emperor's personal legion, became one of the most important units in the empire. In this volume, Arn, Son of Valiant, is heir to the throne of Thule. As king-to-be he must be careful in his choice of a bride, but his heart belongs to Lydia, the daughter of a savage Viking chieftain, whose mores don't exactly match those of his prospective in-laws. Fantagraphics' deluxe, full-color editions of Prince Valiant run chronologically, and volume 49 includes work from the years 1979-1980. This is the penultimate volume in the series.

Includes Bonus Post Cards - 1st printing. Story and art by Junko Mizuno. First there was Cinderella...then there was Hansel and Gretel ... now, the third and final piece in Junko Mizuno's full-color fractured "fairy tales" series, Princess Mermaid! In this dark-hued ocean fable, three beautiful and seductive mermaid sisters, Tara, Julie, and Ai, lure unsuspecting sailors into their underwater pleasure palace only to...eat them!?! Crazed with vengeance for human atrocities against their mother, these mermaid sisters have sworn to kill...but things take a twist when Julie falls for the all-to-human Suekichi, and the two lovers find themselves in the middle of an interspecial feud. Will Julie find true love? Or will the double-dealings of the lusty Dragon of the deep take things in a whole other direction? The ending may surprise you. Princess Mermaid marks a new step in Mizuno's artistry, with full-color pages awash in muted tones that are by turns dreamy, violent, and sexy. Softcover, 6-in. x 8-in., 144 pages, B&W.
