COVER BY SHAWN MARTINBROUGH GEOFF JOHNS (W)/SHAWN MARTINBROUGH (P) ? THE SCOOP: Red-hot writer Geoff Johns (JSA) and penciler Shawn Martinbrough (Detective Comics) visit The House -- and shine a light into the darkest corners of the mutant experience! THE SET-UP: They are everywhere... but they belong nowhere. There is an urban legend circulating throughout America. One that began in New York many years ago. A tale of mutants so deviant and abhorrent, so freakish, that "normal" mutants call them outsiders. The creatures live below the streets of our cities, under the asphalt roads and electrical pipes, safe from Sentinel detection. These unfortunates are known as "the Morlocks." THE STORY: This is the tale of one of those groups -- a group whose members each hope to accomplish one last "wish" in the surface world before severing all ties with our society. Some of these men and women want to say good-bye to loved ones, others are looking for revenge. As paranoia grows and fear ignites, a city neighborhood in Chicago reveals what lengths "ordinary" people will go to eradicate these monsters. They are not heroes or villains. They are scared, cold and hungry... trying to stay out of the spotlight. The Morlocks want to exist. Nothing more. But humanity won't let them. And probably shouldn't. 4-issue mini-series is 32 pages, with ads. 7-59606-05249-3-00111 (MarvelPGplus) 2.50 Cover price $2.50.

Volume 53 - 1st printing. "M8 Greyhound Light Armored Car 1941-91!" Written by Steven J Zaloga. Art by Tony Bryan. First entering combat in Italy in 1943, it was widely used throughout the campaign in northwest Europe, though its off-road performance was found to be wanting. This title describes the design and development of the M8, covering the many variants that were produced during World War II and afterwards, along with a comprehensive survey of its operational use. Volume 109 - 1st printing. " Guilford Courthouse 1781!" Written by Angus Konstam. Art by Adam Hook. By the Spring of 1781, the American Revolutionary War had dragged on for almost six years and the outcome still hung in the balance. When the British commander Lord Cornwallis launched his invasion of North Carolina in early 1781, his objective was to destroy General Nathaniel Greene's American army. At Guilford Courthouse on 15 March 1781 the two armies met. In a desperately hard-fought battle the small but professional British army succeeded in fighting its way through three separate lines of American troops - but at a dreadful cost. Cornwallis lost over a quarter of his command. When news of the 'victory' reached Britain, a politician remarked; 'Another such victory would ruin the British army'. Softcover, 96 pages, PC/PB&W Cover price $19.95.

Volume 110 - 1st printing. " Peleliu 1944!" Written by Gordon L Rottman and Jim Moran. Art by Howard Gerrard. Equalling Tarawa, Iwo Jima and Okinawa in scale and ferocity, the battle for Peleliu has long been regarded as the Pacific War's "forgotten battle", and perhaps one that should never have been fought. A massive carrier-based attack some weeks before the invasion destroyed all aircraft and shipping in the area and virtually isolated the Japanese garrison. 1st Marine Division commander, General Rupertus, made extravagant claims that the capture of Peleliu would "only take three days - maybe two." But the Japanese fought a bloody battle of attrition from prepared positions an in a struggle of unprecedented savagery a whole Marine Division was bled white. Softcover, 96 pages, PC/PB&W Cover price $19.95.

Volume 84 - 1st printing. "World War I Trench Warfare Part 2!" Written by Stephen Bull. Art by Adam Hook. The Allied attempt to break the stalemate of trench warfare by the 'big pushes' of 1916 led to massively costly battles of attrition. The Germans responded by developing schemes of defence in depth anchored on concrete bunkers; the Allies, by sophisticated artillery tactics in support of infantry assaults, and by the introduction of the tank - at first an accident-prone novelty, but later a front-breaking weapon. On both sides the small, self-reliant, opportunistic infantry unit, with its own specialist weapons, became the basic tool of attack. This second of a fascinating two-part study of the birth of 20th century tactics is illustrated in colour and includes rare photographs. Softcover, 64 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $18.95.

Volume 22 - 1st printing. "The First World War Part 3!" By Peter Simkins. In this, the second volume covering the war on the Western Front, Peter Simkins describes the last great battles of attrition at Arras, on the Aisne and at Passchendaele in 1917. Then he moves on to relate the successive offensives launched by Germany in the spring and summer of 1918 in an effort to achieve victory or a favourable peace before American manpower proved decisive. Again, questioning and correcting several myths and long-held assumptions about the nature and conduct of war on the Western Front, the author also looks at the aftermath and legacy of the 'war to end wars'. Softcover, 96 pages, PC/PB&W Cover price $14.95.

Volume 370 - 1st printing. "World War II Allied Nursing Services!" Written by Martin Brayley. Art by Ramiro Bujeiro. The skill and care of the women of the Allied military nursing services was remembered gratefully by hundreds of thousands of wounded servicemen. The small peacetime services increased rapidly by enrolling reservists and volunteers; the great majority of the nurses who cared for Allied casualties were 'civilians in uniform', who worked tirelessly under difficult conditions and - in tented hospitals close to the front lines - in real danger; many nurses paid for their devotion with their lives. This first-ever fully illustrated study of the US, British, Commonwealth, and other nursing organisations includes many unpublished photographs and 24 meticulously illustrated colour figures. Softcover, PC/PB&W.
