These volumes are some of the earliest examples of Collected Comics. Companies, like Harvey, would archive their material by taking all the issues they released that month and having them bound into hardcover book format. The issues come complete with front and back covers and interiors. They were trimmed down perfectly to fit the hardcover format. Each year has twelve volumes, one for each month of the year. Stumbo tries to tiptoe past the library so he doesn't make any noise, but he's still the size of Godzilla. Charlton Comics, believing Tarzan to be a public-domain character, produced this short-lived series before the Edgar Rice Burroughs estate made them cease and desist. It's an unauthorized adaptation of Burroughs' Jungle Tales of Tarzan, telling tales of a young Tarzan before he met Jane. An unusual item for the Tarzan collector. Tarzan saves Tantor the elephant from the pit trap the Mbonga tribe built. But when Tarzan falls in the pit himself, Tantor must take action, in a story with art by comics legend Sam Glanzman. In a tale of Tarzan's early life, he battles Sheeta the panther to earn his place in the ape tribe. Plus guides to the animals of Tarzan's jungle (including dinosaurs!) and his life in the jungle.
