    Forest Fire (1949, Carter Oil Co. first edition) is a promotional comic book distributed by the American Forestry Assn. This is the first appearance of Smokey the Bear, created by Rudy Wendelein with Jack Sparling art. This likable character would go on to become the foremost educator and spokesman for forest fire prevention. 16 pages, 7.5-in. x 10-in., full color, newsprint. FIRST PRINTING: First printings were distributed by the Carter Oil Co. via service stations. All first printings have the Carter Oil Co. name imprinted on the back cover. Later editions had a blank space for local businesses to hand stamp their names.
