Early in the transformation of comic strips to comic books, United Features Syndicate published Comics on Parade as a showcase for its most popular strips, including Tarzan, Li'l Abner and Nancy. A young Tarzan meets Jane while rescuing her from the ape Terkoz, and one of the great love stories begins, in colorized reprints of the earliest Hal Foster Tarzan strips. Li'l Abner's Aunt Bessie from the city falls for Baron Slinkovitch, from the far-off nation of Skurvia. But neither of them realizes that the Baron is flat broke and after Bessie's riches, in a Li'l Abner storyline by Al Capp. And an illustrated biography of screen legend Edward G. Robinson. Centaur Publishing takes over publishing of the former Star Ranger Comics, one of the first Western-themed comics. Short Western strips, sometimes just one to three pages, with titles like Wild West Junior and Cowboy Jake. The Trouble Hunters tackle a new assignment in the modern West. The Air Patrol gets an aerial view of a crime. A centerfold by Fred Guardineer presents a barroom brawl, complete with a bystander holding "Star Ranger" comics and a wanted poster for publisher Ken Fitch. This series was the only one from Centaur to carry the Centaur brand emblem on its covers. Wild West Junior; Ace and Deuce; Killer McGee; Cowboy Jake; Lyin' Lou; Trouble Hunters; Windy; Lee Trent; Two Buckaroos.
