One of the earliest and sought after piece of Marvel memorabilia. The Merry Marvel Marching Society was started by Stan Lee, co-creator of many of Marvel's main stable of superheroes and villains, in late 1964 as a way to further separate Marvel from DC, or the "Distinguished Competition" as they were referred to. For a $1.00 contribution, each member would receive an official membership kit that included a letter welcoming you to the organization, a giant-size membership button (featuring Spider-Man, the Human Torch, and the Thing) with the declaration "I Belong: The Merry Marvel Marching Society," a collection of stickers, a Make Mine Marvel pencil, and a membership card with a pledge of allegiance on the back. Subscribers also received a 33-1/3 rpm "flexi-disc" record with the voices of the Marvel Bullpen such as Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Dick Ayers, Stan Goldberg, Wally Wood, and Don Heck clowning around and welcoming you to the M.M.M.S. with the now legendary "March Along" song. A second flexi-disc was released in 1967, and each year a new kit came, available to subscribers at $0.75.
