Cover by Billy DeBeck. Stories and art by Billy DeBeck. Dell's Large Feature Comic reprinted classic comic strips. This issue reprints the Barney Google and Snuffy Smith daily strip from Oct. 14, 1940 to March 26, 1941. City-born Barney visits the back-country hills, home of the strip's new star, hillbilly Snuffy Smith. These WWII-era strips offer two things not usually seen in the strip's later years: one of them is Snuffy Smith in a soldier's uniform, as he's drafted into the service. The other is the strip's namesake, Barney Google (the original "Google"), who was MIA from the strip that bore his name during the last half of the 20th century. When Scruffy goes to boot camp, it becomes a test of wills between the hillbilly and the drill sergeant. 8 1/2-in. x 11 1/2-in, 48 pages, B&W. Cover price $0.10.
