The romance between Artie and Fran is strained after he finds out that she put her aging father in a home, then lied about it, in a story that reveals attitudes of the time about aging. Amy has a racket marrying men so they can avoid immigration procedures, but it falls apart when she meets Rene, who really loves her. Nan loves Rod, the photographer she works for, but sleazy Bill threatens their happiness with a faked photograph.
