UK edition. Identical to US edition, but has 9d cover price. The first appearance and origin of the Incredible Hulk in "The Coming of the Hulk." Script by Stan Lee, pencils by Jack Kirby, inks by Paul Reinman. 1st app. Rick Jones, General Ross, and Betty Ross. It's the height of the Cold War and the government is about to test their new Gamma Bomb. Unfortunately, a carefree and oblivious teenager named Rick Jones wanders out onto the test area. Dr. Bruce Banner, the creator of the Gamma Bomb, rushes out to warn the young man away. However, the bomb explodes and as Banner pushes the teenager to safety he is caught in the heart of a Gamma maelstrom. The gamma-rays that bombard Banner's taunt frame transform his physiology. Now, whenever Banner becomes angry he transforms into the man-brute known as the Incredible Hulk. Feared by the public and hunted by the army, the Hulk becomes one of the most tragic figures in Marvel's history. General "Thunderbolt" Ross will not rest until the Hulk is destroyed. The creature's only allies are Rick Jones and Betty Ross, Thunderbolt's daughter and Banner's one true love. Thus begins the epic saga of the world's mightiest mortal. NOTE: Notice that the Hulk was colored grey for the first few issues of his series. In an interview, Stan Lee (creator) said very simply that the reason for this was that grey was the easiest color for the copiers of the time to print. When the technology got better the Hulk became green, and according to Stan, for no better reason than they didn't have a green hero in their stable yet.

Introduction of the Teen Brigade in "The Incredible Hulk vs The Metal Master!," script by Stan Lee, art by Steve Ditko; Finding his transformations more and more difficult using his gamma ray machine, the Hulk with Banner's brain also finds that he has Banner's features when he zaps himself to face the alien invading Metal Master and his head does not transform; The power of the Metal Master is too much for the Hulk and he is captured by Ross. Rick forms the Teen Brigade; Hulk breaks free of Ross's bunker and then pulls off one of the boldest victories against one of the most powerful aliens ever seen. 36 pgs., full color. World's End?, script by Stan Lee, art by Herb Trimpe; The Leader pushes the button, firing a missile at Russia as he tries to touch off World War III; The Hulk has to battle the Super Humanoid in time to get back and stop the missile from striking its target but he takes too long beating the indestructible plastic monster; Willing himself to turn back into Banner, the brilliant scientist uses an experimental hunter missile to knock down the first one; So the Leader pushes the button again and this time it is the Hulk who comes to the rescue. 36 pgs.

At the Mercy of -- Maximus the Mad!, script by Stan Lee, art by Herb Trimpe; Bruce Banner is in the country of Costa Salvador when he runs across a town in the shadow of a giant robot whose inhabitants seem to be mind controlled; As he finds his own mind being assaulted, Bruce turns into the Hulk and then attacks a hilltop fortress that seems to be the source of the mental manipulation; Breaking into the fortress, Hulk finds that his foes are Maximus the Mad and his evil band of Inhumans and a battle ensues; The army also attacks the fortress and Maximus talks the Hulk into helping him repel the jade giant's oldest enemies. 36 pgs.

Within the Swamp There Stirs...a Glob!, script by Roy Thomas, art by Herb Trimpe; Hulk is leaping over Florida when he is accidentally struck by a missile causing him to crash land in the swamp; Coming across an old U.S. government cabin, Hulk destroys some barrels of radioactive waste which creates a muck monster soon to be known as the Glob; The army is in the marsh hunting the Hulk when the Glob captures Betty, thinking she is the woman he loved back in the days when he was a human; The Hulk and the Glob battle but the muck monster ends up giving his life in helping the Hulk save Betty from anti-radioactive goop that Ross has poured into the swamp in order to kill both the Glob and the Hulk. 36 pgs.

The Hulk's Last Fight!, script by Roy Thomas, art by Herb Trimpe; Despairing after he turns into his human alter ego and finds that the Hulk has destroyed a train for no apparent reason, Bruce Banner finds a newspaper headline that asks him to come to New York as Mr. Fantastic believes that he has discovered a way to do away with the Hulk for good; Riding the rails to the Big Apple, Bruce tries to jot some notes of his own regarding Reed's process and secures them to his waist as he finds himself transforming once again into the Hulk to face down some pesky hoboes; By the time he makes it to the Baxter Building, our hero is once again in the form of Bruce Banner but an irate security guard makes his metabolism race and he changes into his monstrous alter ego; During Hulk's battle with the F.F., Sue notices as the pouch with Bruce's notes falls from the Hulk's waist and the Thing is called on to keep the jade giant occupied while Reed uses the new information to modify his weapon design in trying to banish the Hulk for good. 36 pgs.
