Volume 2 - 1st printing. "Playboy Trump: The Complete Collection!"

Harvey Kurtzman created the publishing sensation MAD and in 1956 could have played his strong hand into a lucrative equity deal with EC publisher Bill Gaines. Instead, he bolted from MAD to join another 1950's publishing sensation, Hugh Hefner and Playboy.

Hefner provided the format and big budget that Kurtzman had dreamed of. The resulting new color satire magazine Trump was lavish, ambitious and star studded, featuring Mel Brooks, Will Elder, Jack Davis, Wally Wood, Arnold Roth, Al Jaffee and Russ Heath, among others. Trump held enormous promise. But, for complex reasons, Hefner pulled the plug before the third issue was finished. For the first time in six decades, the legendary magazine is finally collected, featuring much never-before-seen art, including the surviving contents of the long-lost Trump #3. For comics archaeologists, this is a print version of King Tut's tomb.

With essays and annotations by Kurtzman expert Denis Kitchen that put the 1956-57 publication in context, this long-overdue collection will be a revelation to fans of Kurtzman and his crew of madmen, satire, and popular American culture.

    Hardcover, 6 1/2-in. x 11-in., 168 pages, full color.

    Cover price $29.99.
