    Captain America (1998 3rd series) Annual 2001

"Denial" Guest-starring the Invaders. Script by Dan Jurgens. Pencils by Lee Moder (pp. 1-4, 17, 27, 38, 39), Darryl Banks (pp. 5-16), Ignacio Calero (pp. 18-26), and Joe Weems (pp. 28-37). Inks by Walden Wong, Sandu Florea, Marco Galli, and Pierre-André Déry. Painted cover by Rodolfo Migliari. Captain America visits the White House to speak to President George W. Bush about a battle fought in the Pacific in 1944. During this particular fight, Cap was taken prisoner by the Red Skull, and some members of President Roosevelt's cabinet thought he might be dead. But the Sub-Mariner, Bucky, Toro, and the original Human Torch rescued Cap and defeated Warrior Woman and the skull. Now in the present day, the Sentinel of Liberty reads about the government's contingency plan (to deny Cap's death) in the event the Invaders' rescue mission had failed. Thankfully, it did not. And the mission became an inspirational tale instead! Long live the red, white, and blue! (Note: This annual was reprinted in 2021 in the hardcover: Captain America Omnibus by Dan Jurgens.) 48 pages. Cover price $2.99.
