DC Silver Age Classics Adventure Comics (1992) 247

For 37 years, DC comics have been printed at World Color Press in Sparta, Illinois. Now that era comes to an end as DC switches to new printing processes...but DC's not forgetting that part of its long history. DC presents the DC SILVER AGE CLASSICS, the last books printed on these presses. To commemorate the end of this era in comics publishing, ten classic comic books that were originally printed at World Color Press are being printed there again. The DC SILVER AGE CLASSICS have been selected for their importance to the history of the field and to the continuing heritage of DC Comics. This issue reprints Adventure Comics #247, the origin and first appearance of Legion of Super Heroes (Cosmic Boy, Lightning Lad, and Saturn Girl) in "The Legion of Super-Heroes," script by Otto Binder, art by Al Plastino; Three teens from the future offer Superboy membership in their super-hero club; But when Superboy fails to complete three simple tasks, the Legionnaires pretend to reject him, until they reveal that the three tasks were merely initiation pranks which proved he is a good sport. "The 13 Superstition Arrows," script by Ed Herron, art by George Papp; To secure a $5,000,000 bequest to charity, Green Arrow must use 13 trick arrows with gimmicks associated with bad luck. "Aquaman's Super Sea Squad," script by Jack Miller, art by Ramona Fradon; Aquaman has to carefully deliver a nuclear projectile to the military before it detonates. Tom & Mary Bierbaum and Keith Giffen comment on the first Legion of Super-Heroes story, with vintage Al Plastino art. Cover pencils by Curt Swan, inks by Stan Kaye. 36 pgs., full color. Cover price $1.00.
