    Volume 9 - 1st printing.

Story and art by Mamoru Nagano. English adaptation by John Wisnom.

The story shifts scene to the Kastenpo region on the planet Both, a rather desolate mining area along the Dragon Road and a training cum vacation spot for headliners, their fatimas, groupies and whatever. The events center around the region's newest visitor, the upstanding cleric/knight Muse Van Reyback, and its most notorious resident, the renegade Dougulus Kaien. After a chance meeting of the two under less than cordial conditions, Reyback drops into a bar recommended to him by none other than Voards Viewlard (remember him?), and is told about the latest exploits of Kaien, the Silver Knight. It seems that four months previous, Kaien, the most wanted man in the Galaxy, infiltrated a military base connected with metorotekchrome, the metal for forging mortar head swords, to collect intelligence. He was spotted, and during the ensuing escape, his fatima Auxo was blown to bits. Saving her, particularly her memory, is left up to Dr. Ballanche's protege Prisen Corks. Kaien's stunt does not go unnoticed, as the local Republic of U-Thu sends a mortar headd force, led by a rather disgusting chap Meiyu Sukat, to launch a "take no prisoners" attack on the village of migrant miners and anti-government guerillas where Kaien sought refuge and was taken captive by the mysterious woman leading the guerillas.

    Softcover, 9 1/2-in. x 11 1/2-in., 96 pages, B&W.

The Auge, which Atropos happened to find in her father's backyard, and Braford's wreck of an MH (controlled by A's sister Kyo) go at it, as the scene swings around between the Floating Temple, Aisha Codante in Zanda City (Kastenpo) heavily bandaged from burns suffered in her spiff with fellow Mirage Knight Ting, and the Schaft-Paltenon duo out in space (and spaced out). The mission to rescue Sopp has apparently gotten underway in earnest. Braford wins the battle with Atropos brilliantly, despite a dysfunctional Kyo and the awesome power of the Auge. Atropos cleverly escapes Auge's demise and takes Sopp and Sweh into the huge complex linear accelerator under the hideout, where we find out from Atropos why Kyo went haywire. Braford fails to grab them again and Barrow gives him the third degree for it. Atropos then decides to abandon the hideout, taking Sopp and Suezhou to safety in a nearby marsh, as Lonn approaches with the Schpeltor, courtesy of Kaien, and a full corps of AKD infantry regulars.
