Although it was not numbered #1, Charlton seems to have considered Space Adventures (1952 1st series) #60 as the first issue of this new series of Space Adventures. Reporter Paul Mann continues to aid visitors from the future in their efforts to prevent a future war on Earth, as established in Space Adventures (1952 1st series) #60. This story has early art by future Batman artist Jim Aparo. Paul seeks the secret history of the future enemy, in a story with early art by Spider-Man co-creator Steve Ditko. A volcanic eruption brings Paul's time-traveling adventure to a close. The entire issue is written by legendary comics scribe Denny O'Neil, billed as " Sergius O'Shaughnessy". After a nine-year hiatus, Charlton Comics revives its long-running sci-fi superheroics title. This issue reprints some of the earliest adventures of Captain Atom, featuring early art by Spider-Man co-creator Steve Ditko. A hapless worker trapped on an experimental rocket is transformed into the atomic-powered superhero Captain Atom. Captain Atom uses his new atomic powers to enter space and save the first Russian cosmonaut. Then he tries to escort a dignitary to a peace conference, but someone doesn't want him to arrive.
