The Gumps Musical Comedy Letter (1919) is an 8.5-in x 11-in. letter sent by the W. C. Herman theatrical booking agency of Chicago to the manager of the Antigo Wisconsim Opera House with an eye toward a possible booking of the Gumps, "A Farce Comedy with Music and Girls," available, according to the letter, for an August or September booking date at "a stiff $1.50 scale of prices." It may be that little or no record exists of this humorous stage play beyond this letter. Whatever the case, the letter is a wonderful piece of newspaper comic strip character history.
