Volume 7 - 1st printing. "Lines of Torres Vedra 1809-11!" Written by Ian Fletcher. Art by Bill Younghusband. Following the battle of Bussaco on 27 September 1810 Wellington's heavily outnumbered troops began to withdraw towards Lisbon. By the evening of 9 October the British and Portuguese began to withdraw behind a line of defensive works that had been built to the north of Lisbon. These were not the rudimentary field works that the French anticipated, but an enormous network of forts, batteries and redoubts whose construction had been started the previous November - the Lines of Torres Vedras. This 30-mile-wide line utilised the area's natural defences, damming rivers, scarping hillsides, blocking roads and establishing forts upon almost all of the hills. This title describes its design, creation and effectiveness in the face of French attacks. Softcover, 64 pages, PC/PB&W Cover price $18.95.

Volume 179 - 2nd and later printings. "American Civil War Armies (3)!" Written by Philip Katcher. Art by Ronald Volstad. At the time of the American Civil War, with two million men under arms, a US Army that in pre-war days had depended upon a minute number of technical troops now required virtually an army of specialists alone. Special sharpshooters were recruited for skirmishing duty; men whose wounds would have led to their discharge in the past now found themselves guarding important posts in the Veteran Reserve Corps; and large numbers of civilians found themselves in uniform as members of the Telegraph or Hospital Corps. Philip Katcher examines the organization and uniforms of the specialist troops who served in the armies of both sides. Softcover, PC/PB&W.

Volume 3 - 1st printing. "1945-1946!" Story and art by Walt Kelly. Walt Kelly's spirited and engaging Our Gang harkens back to the days before television, when kids spent most of their time playing outdoors, limited only by each other's imagination and ingenuity. Kelly created dozens of Our Gang stories by the end of its 59-issue run in 1949, the year he quit comics to create the immortal syndicated newspaper strip, Pogo. In Our Gang Volume 3, Kelly hits his stride in supplying eight adventures of the mainstay off-beat personas as well as other whimsical characters, from mad scientists to eccentric animals. Fantagraphics Books has lovingly restored the work from the original comic books, giving Kelly's art a new four-color splendor! With a cover by Jeff Smith! Softcover, 7-in. x 9 1/2-in., 108 pages, full color. Cover price $14.99.

And Lee Atchison, of Sequential Tart, described Owly as "one of those comics that I always wish for, always search for, but rarely find."
