Her hunt is complicated by the arrival of Detective Max Conroy, an L.A.P.D. detective who is investigating Joanna's battle with the shadowy mercenary commandos known as "Hawk Team." On the surface, Conroy seems like a good cop, frustrated by the increasingly free hand that the sprawling, omnipresent hypercorporations are allowed ? and by just how far above the law the hypercorps have become. As Joanna carves a swath through the local criminal underworld, seeking a lead on Roarke, a Hawk Team shooter who has targeted her for elimination, she soon realizes that Conroy isn't on the side of the angels, and is instead leading her into a deadly ambush. 32pgs, FC (4 of 6)SRP: $3.50 Cover price $3.50.

Hey, Perhapa-pals! Todd Dezago here. I really don't want to date myself but, y'know, I can remember a time when there wasn't any PREVIEWS. No solicitations, no cover image, no three sentence encapsulation that sorta dilutes the thrills of an upcoming story. Back then the only way you knew what your hero was in store for next month was on the last panel of this month's issue! Like-Next Issue: The Rhino! It was enticing! It was exciting! Don't get me wrong-I love PREVIEWS-it's wonderful publication. However, in honor of those bygone days, we here at The Perhapanauts will be using this space to introduce ourselves, preview some awesome artwork, and maybe tell a few jokes. Check back here next month for some of that kind of fun. Oh, and please check out The Perhapanauts #2 for a comic that's packed with adventure, chills, and excitement! After all, we do it for you. Cover price $2.99.

The Case of the Shoplifter's Shoe. Story by Erle Stanley Gardner. Art and cover by Paul Norris. Pioneering comics publisher David McKay's Feature Book was the first US comic book to devote complete issues to a single character. This issue featured an adaptation of the thirteenth Perry Mason mystery novel by Erle Stanley Gardner, one of the few Perry Mason comic books. A wealthy older woman seems to have kleptomania, which might explain her shoplifting - but not why she doesn't remember shooting the man she's accused of murdering. The cover reads "A Picturization of a Best Seller," one of the few uses of the awkward term for a comics adaptation. Featuring art by Paul Norris (the creator of Aquaman). 32 pages, Full Color.
