Volume 5 - 1st printing. "Into the Nightmare Rift!" By Richard Pett. With five shards of the Shattered Star secured, visions point toward one of Varisia's most remote corners as the site protecting the sixth fragment of the powerful artifact. Yet the heroes are not the first to search for this shard - upon arriving at the ancient ruin known as Guiltspur, they find a small army of giants (said to be ruled by a blue dragon) already excavating the site. And as the heroes soon learn, there are other forces searching for the final shards from the Darklands below, and even from beyond reality itself, for Guiltspur lies dangerously close to the nightmare realm of Leng! Into the Nightmare Rift is a Pathfinder RPG adventure for 13th-level characters. This volume continues the Shattered Star Adventure Path, including articles on Lissala, the ancient goddess of runes and fate, a gazetteer of the weird demiplane of Leng, and several new monsters (including Lovecraftian terrors like the Nightgaunt) in the Pathfinder Bestiary. Author Bill Ward (Return of the Sword) continues a new novella in the Pathfinder's Journal. Softcover, 8 1/2-in. x 11-in., 96 pages, full color. Cover price $19.99.

Cover by E. C. Stoner. Stories and art by E. C. Stoner and others. Dell's Large Feature Comic features the adventures of Dell's first superhero, previouisly seen in The Funnies. Phil Anson returns from his years of study in the Orient with the ability to leave his body, becoming Phantasmo, sort of a cross between the Spectre and Doctor Strange. When he must leave his body behind, he trusts it to his sidekick Whizzer, the bellhop at the hotel where he lives. Phantasmo and Whizzer try to rescue a scientist from foreign spies who want his new miracle fuel formula. Phantasmo uses his ethereal powers to save Whizzer's uncle's farm after the dam collapses. But then he looks closer, and realizes the dam was sabotaged by a crime ring whose next target is New York. Phantasmo and Whizzer discover that an abandoned yacht is actually a front for modern-day pirates armed with torpedoes. While vacationing in the north woods, Phantasmo uses his astral-projection body to fight a forest fire, but his human body is in danger of being consumed by the flames. 8 1/2-in. x 11 1/2-in, 48 pages, B&W.
