Here's one of Buddy's favorite Kirby/Ayers pre-superhero monster covers! While still in junior high school, Buddy found a copy at a C.B. Berry Elementary Halloween carnival. In those days kids (but not Buddy) contributed comics to be sold at five cents each. Needless to say, Buddy loaded up!

"I Met the Thing on Midnight Island!", art by Don Heck; A sailor finds a note from a castaway, but on the island named he finds only a strange creature; When an alien ship arrives to pick up the creature, he realizes that it was a castaway. 36 pages, full color. He attacks him and tries to make him lead him there. His victim is Davy Jones, and he shows the thief his locker by drowning him. "The Coming of Maaboo!", art by Don Heck; A mercenary hears of a tribe that hoards gold while waiting for the return of a legendary alien; The mercenary poses as the alien and steals the gold, but he is abducted by the real alien. 36 pages, full color.
