Volume 5 - 1st printing. "1929-1930!" By Frank King. Frank King's Gasoline Alley remains one of the truest chronicles of American domestic life, tracing the joys and heartbreaks of a typical middle class family from the giddy 1920s to the Great Depression to World War II and after. In volume 5 of the ongoing series, the Wallets and their friends continue their daily rounds: Uncle Walt and his friends play the stock market, a risky proposition on the eve of Depression; Walt also takes his wife Phyllis on an extended vacation to England; cousin Lora starts dating boys; and Skeezix, now ten years old, has his first serious case of puppy love after being entranced by the coquettish new neighborhood girl Sally. Award-winning cartoonist and designer Chris Ware will add a special treat to the volume: a dvd which shows select scenes from Frank King's home movies of the 1920s. Augmenting the already impressive photographs that have accompanied this classic comic strip reprint series, the DVD demonstrates King's protean artistic talent and the links between his own family life and that of his beloved cartoon characters. Hardcover (Horizontal Format), 9-in. x 7-in., 400 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $39.95.

1st printing. Story and art by Frank King. Cover by Chris Ware. Walt Before Skeezix collects the first years of Frank King's beloved comic strip, Gasoline Alley. These comics, produced between 1919 and 1920, focus primarily on Walt Wallet and his friends, as they engage with the then-novel automobile sensation that was sweeping the nation. This period of the newspaper strip is especially fascinating as a historical time capsule, charting a moment in America's past when horses and buggies shared the road with cars, and when the USA was making the transition from a country of rural farmers to an urban, industrialized society. Designed and edited by world-renowned cartoonist Chris Ware (Building Stories). Hardcover (Horizontal Format), 9-in. x 7-in., 400 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $44.95.

1st printing. By James Eric Black. One of the most popular comic strips of the 1950s and the first to reference politics of the day, Walt Kelly's Pogo took on Joe McCarthy before the controversial senator was a blip on Edward R. Murrow's radar. The strip's satire was so biting, it was often relegated to newspaper editorial sections at a time when artists in other media were blacklisted for far less. Pogo was the vanguard of today's political comic strips, such as Doonesbury and Pearls Before Swine, and a precursor of the modern political parody of late night television. This comprehensive biography of Kelly reveals the life of a conflicted man and unravels the symbolism and wordplay of his art for modern readers. Softcover, 6-in. x 9-in., 228 pages, B&W. Cover price $39.99.

1st printing. Written by Rick Kirkman. Art by Jerry Scott. Child-rearing reaches an entirely new level of delightfully messy chaos in Baby Blues: Wetter, Louder, Stickier. Battle-ready and perpetually exhausted, Daryl and Wanda team up to navigate a new front of challenges, like Zoe's enthusiasm over the "Smoochy Boyz" concert, deciphering baby Wren's attempts at language, and determining Hammie's place as a colon in the school play (whether "colon" refers to punctuation or digestion remains undetermined). Armed with "performance-enhancing substances" (a.k.a., chocolate donuts), the perfectly normal MacPherson family will surely bring a barrage of smiles and laughter to familiar fans with their perfectly chaotic lives. Softcover (Horizontal Format), 11-in. x 9-in., 216 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $18.99.

1st printing. Story and art by Abner Dean. What Am I Doing Here? is a startling masterwork by one of the forgotten innovators of American comics. In 1945, after more than a decade as a commercial illustrator, Abner Dean invented a genre all his own: One might call it the Existential Gag Cartoon. He used the elegant draftsmanship and single-panel format of the standard cartoons of the day, but turned them to a deeper, stranger purpose. What Am I Doing Here? depicts a world at once alien and familiar, in which Dean's unclad Everyman searches for love, happiness, and the answers to life's biggest questions. Hardcover, 168 pages, full color. Mature Readers Cover price $22.95.

The sixth Dilbert treasury brings together all of the office psychos who have annoyed Dilbert and entertained millions over the past 13 years.

1st printing. By Michael Alexander Kahn and Richard Samuel West. A lavish coffee table book devoted to the most important political satire and cartoon magazine in American history. Published from 1877 to 1918, Puck was regularly a major political battleground and is credited with single-handedly thwarting the third-term ambitions of Ulysses Grant in 1880 and electing Grover Cleveland to the presidency in 1884. Puck did it with art-lavish, color, full-page and two-page center-spread cartoons. It was the first American magazine to publish color lithographs on a weekly basis and, for nearly forty years, was a training ground and showcase for some of the country's most talented cartoonists, led by its co-founder, Joseph Keppler. This retrospective contains nearly 300 full-color plates. Hardcover (Horizontal Format), 12-in. x 11-in., 328 pages, full color. Cover price $59.99.

Story and art by Scott Adams.
The 18th Dilbert book.
Scott Adams still has the corporate world guffawing about the adventures of nerdy Dilbert and his power-hungry companion, Dogbert, plus Ratbert and the pointy-haired boss, as they make their way through the travails of modern work life. Only a cartoonist with been-there-endured-that experience could make people laugh so hard. Over 150 million fans across 65 countries cannot get enough of Adams' glib office humor. When Did Ignorance Become a Point of View? captures it all, even those Sunday strips that make it into the office each Monday morning.
