Top CGC census grade for this issue.
Paper: White
Label #4059317011
Starts Dec 2 Story by Joshua Dysart. Art by Thomas Giorello and Keron Grant. Cover by Juan Jose Ryp. Solveig, a young farm girl of great promise, is haunted by visions from the god-king Odinn himself. In words she cannot understand, and images too violent for a child to comprehend, Odinn tasks Solveig with a brutal mission: retrieve his eye — the one he famously traded for wisdom — and bring it to him. In the real world, the winter season has not left the land of Solveig's people for several years. As crops fail and livestock perish, fear and panic grow. In their desperation to appease the gods and free the land of this never-ending winter, the tribe turns to the child whose visions are surely a sign from Odinn. A war party is assembled. Solveig and a band of warriors — including an all-seeing witch — are sent north on a great quest — one which will change all that she knows, all who she has known, and all that she will become. 32 pages. Full Color. Cover price $7.99.

Original Art for K-Mart Marvel Action Hour Collectible Cups by Steven Butler (1995)Published 1995Original Art for K-Mart Marvel Action Hour Collectible Cups by Steven Butler (1995)
Long before Marvel Studios took the world by storm, children of the 90's were introduced to Marvel's non-mutant, non-spider stable of heroes through the short-lived (but beloved!) Iron Man and Fantastic Four cartoons billed as the Marvel Action Hour. As Marvel had successfully done in the past with 7/11, they promoted the syndicated hour with collectible cups this time available at K-Mart. Marvel veteran Steven Butler provided art for the cups and this fantastic piece features two of the designs- one a great hero shot of the FF and Iron Man (along with his West Coast Avengers/Force Works comrades) with the other featuring Dr. Doom and the Mandarin back to back against attacking heroes. Butler nails the tone and style while injecting a bit more life and detail than the animation typically allowed. Pencil and ink on comic art board. 11 1/4" x 9 1/2".

A fantastic example of the effort involved in making comics in the pre-digital age! Cable and Clan Chosen have infiltrated the Canaanite time travel base and are working on sending Kane back to the present, but with the timelines closely aligned it takes a little effort to find the correct one. In order to make the holographic images that Hope is sifting through pop and appear more futuristic, the page was photocopied and the images cut out and placed appropriately on the overlay so that they could be printed in red ink. Additionally the images, which were initially hand-drawn on the page, are meticulously covered up with pieces of art board. You can see in the image of the published page how the 'holograms' feel separated from the rest of the art in a way that gives them more impact on the page. Also included is a copy of the published issue. Pencil and ink on Marvel Comics art board with semi-translucent overlay affixed to board at top with tape. 11" x 17.
