1st printing. Story and art by Julia Wertz. Opening at the culmination of a disastrous trip to Puerto Rico, Julia stands stupefied in the middle of the jungle beside a rental Jeep she's just crashed. From this moment, the story flashes back to the beginning of her five-year journey towards sobriety that includes group therapy sessions, relapses, an ill-fated relationship, terrible dates, and an unceremonious eviction from her New York City apartment. Impossible People portrays the lesser told but more common story of addiction: That the road to recovers is not always linear. Softcover, 8-in. x 10-in., 320 pages, B&W. Cover price $30.00.

But it isn't until he learns to speak from the heart that he begins to find authentic human connections and is let in-to the worlds of the people he meets. Nick's journey occurs alongside the beginnings of a relationship with Wren, a wry, spirited oncologist at a nearby hospital, whose work and life becomes painfully tangled with Nick's.

1st printing. Art Spiegelman defined the graphic novel memoir with his Pulitzer Prize-winning MAUS, which narrated his father's experiences in Auschwitz. Growing up with Holocaust survivor parents, he was taught that no place is truly safe. Spiegelman finally experienced that truth for himself on 9/11, as he and his wife raced to find their daughter, attending her first day of school two blocks away from the World Trade Center. The fragmented nature of the art and text reflect the scattered, painfully vivid thoughts that Spiegelman had both during and after those traumatic moments. The oversized, full-color spreads include panels drawn realistically, drawn MAUS-style (i.e., Spiegelman depicts himself as a mouse), and drawn in the style of early 20th century comics such as the Katzenjammer Kids and Bringing up Father. Those early comics were a comfort to Spiegelman during the terror and paranoia he felt (and still feels) post-9/11, and the book closes with a short history and reprints of those comics, which seem startlingly relevant to the current political situation. Hardcover, 10-in. x 14 1/2-in., 40 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $19.95.

1st Edition - 1st printing. Written by Mat Johnson. Art by Warren Pleece. Cover by Stephen John Philips. Writer Mat Johnson (HELLBLAZER: PAPA MIDNITE), winner of the prestigious Hurston-Wright Legacy Award for fiction, constructs a fearless graphic novel that is both a page-turning mystery and a disturbing exploration of race and self-image in America, masterfully illustrated with rich period detail by Wareen Pleece (THE INVISIBLES, HELLBLAZER). In the early 20th Century, when lynchings were commonplace throughout the American South, a few courageous reporters from the North risked their lives to expose these atrocities. They were African-American men who, due to their light skin color, could 'pass' among the white folks. They called this dangerous assignment going 'incognegro.' Zane Pinchback, a reporter for the New York-based New Holland Herald barely escapes with his life after his latest 'incognegro' story goes bad. But when he returns to the sanctuary of Harlem, he's sent to investigate the arrest of his own brother, charged with the brutal murder of a white woman in Mississippi. With a lynch mob already swarming, Zane must stay 'incognegro' long enough to uncover the truth behind the murder in order to save his brother - and himself. He finds that the answers are buried beneath layers of shifting identities, forbidden passions and secrets that run far deeper than skin color. Hardcover, 136 pages, B&W. Mature Readers

NOTE: "A talented writer of both fiction and creative non-fiction, Johnson's publications have established him as an important new voice in the African-American tradition."-Walter Mosley Cover price $19.99.
