Tarzan and the Cannibal King is an all-new Tarzan tale, a spectacular addition to any Tarzan collection.
In a jungle country little known to the dusky race of man and never visited by the white, there lived a boy, orphaned almost at birth, but reared against all odds by a tribe of apes like none ever seen in a zoo. And so begins this epic adventure.- Written by veteran Burroughs writer Jake Saunders.
- Hardback format with dust jacket.
- 256 pages printed on 80# paper in a generous 8 x 10 format.
- Smyth-sewn binding covered in Italian Cialux cloth with gold foil-stamped cover.
- Nine full-color paintings by Alex Nino, including three that are fold-out.
- A six-page bonus section featuring Alex Nino's sketches and preliminary artwork.
- Title and endpaper designs by veteran illustrator Zavier Leslie Cabarga.
- Two-color title page, letterpress-printed on 100% cotton Crane Lettra paper.
- Numerous black and white illustrations and page decorations by Alex Nino.
- Published by Hyborean Press.
- A great story in a work-of-art format sure to please any fine quality book lover.
We don't yet have reviews for Tarzan and the Cannibal King, but Saunders' previous book, The Martian Legion: In Quest of Xonthron, received high praise from Burroughs fans, including Richard Lupoff and Harlan Ellison. You can expect the same high quality and high adventure in Jake's newest novel, Tarzan and the Cannibal King!
This from Richard Lupoff (full review at TheMartianLegion.com): "I've never seen or read anything like this astonishing book. And after coming to terms with the magnificent production, there is Jake Saunders' prodigious novel. Like everything else in this book, it's larger than life. Vast stretches of glorious adventure and dazzling imagery."
And these words from Harlan Ellsion (full review at TheMartianLegion.com): "I could go on expounding what a joy, what a pleasure holding and reading this book would be for all of you, but I'll end this review by again expressing my breathless admiration for Jake Saunders' masterful accomplishment."
"Jake, It was the reading of Tarzan and the Cannibal king that gave me a platform to move to your Martian Legion book. Tarzan and the Cannibal King is so skillfully written that I cannot think of another author beyond ERB that could have bettered your vision of Tarzan as a youth. The quality of your work is obvious. I read as much as possible concerning ERBs works while still touching base with old favorites. In your writing, youve created a sturdy bridge between the old and the new. Like yourself, I am a dyed-in-the-wool Burroughs fan. It is a lifelong allegiance once you are smitten. – John E."

Published 1964 by House of Greystoke.$8.00
First printing, 1964. A collected edition of Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar, his fifth Tarzan novel written in six weeks. This edition features the reprinted novel along with rare illustrations by J. Allen St. John from the hardcover edition and Frank Parker. This collection also includes an illustrated bibliography including domestic and foreign hardcover and paperback editions, movies and comics. In addition, House of Greystoke includes a J. Allen St. John Folio, which reproduces all the artwork drawn especially for the serialization in the ultra-rare Wichita Eagle newspaper. The folio measures 9 3/4-in. x 13 3/4-in. when unfolded and consists of nine loose folded pages printed on both sides. As usual with House of Greystoke productions, this is as thorough as it could have been in 1964 and exquisitely well done. Book is side-stapled, 7-in. x 9 3/4-in., 122 pages, B&W. Folio is folded, 7-in. x 9 3/4-in., 9 loose sheets printed on both sides.
