    Skull and Bones (1992) 1
    Published 1992 by DC.

Ed Hannigan, creator of Marvel's CLOAK AND DAGGER and artist of GREEN ARROW and BATMAN: LEGENDS OF THE DARK KNIGHT, gives DC a new super-hero. Inspired by events in a changing Soviet Union, Hannigan has created Skull and Bones, a daunting freedom fighter who is the vanguard of a new age in the blossoming Russian republic. SKULL & BONES follows the adventures of a young soldier, returning to Russia after serving in the Army in Afghanistan. He's seen far too much death and senseless violence, and all he wants to do is go home and live peacefully. But rebellion is in the air in the Soviet Union, and the soldier joins an underground group that is dedicated to helping Russia change and change fast. Helping Skull and Bones - or simply, the Skeleton - are an amazing electronics wizard, as well as the niece of the KGB's boss and crime lord. This work represents Hannigan's first full-length tour de force as writer, penciller and inker. Enhancing the bold and detailed art is color artist Alex Wald, colorist of THE SHADOW and AMERICAN FLAGG. Prestige Format. Cover price $4.95.

Back Cover by Christian Rosado. A merchant vessel is besieged by a vicious crew of pirates, but the fighting is interrupted by a devastating typhoon. When the storm crashes in, it leaves predator and prey stranded on an island somewhere in the Indian Ocean. The merchant ship captain and his crew, lucky enough to have survived the savage storm, scramble to hide what is left of their precious cargo before the surviving pirates overtake them. When it seems the marauders have won the day, a powerful no-nonsense admiral and her crew step in to join the fray. She informs everyone that there is yet a more dangerous threat on the horizon; a murderous mercenary known across the seven seas as "The Wolf Hunter." Survival may require an unlikely and unsteady accord betwixt pirate crews. With a massive treasure on the table the only question is who will double-cross who first? Hardcover, 72 pages, full color. Cover price $19.99.

1st printing. Story and art by Jeff Smith. The secret origin of Jeff Smith's BONE Comes to Light! Cartoon Books presents THORN: The Complete Proto- BONE College Strips from 1982 to 1986, and Other Early Drawings, reprinting the entire run of his earliest rendering of Jeff Smith's world-famous BONE characters for the first time. These comic strips reveal an early version of BONE called THORN that was written for a college audience in the 1980s. THORN appeared in the pages of The Ohio State University's student newspaper The Lantern. A few were reprinted in a self-published 1983 book called THORN: Tales from The Lantern. Another small selection was published in 2008's limited edition fundraiser for OSU's Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum called Before BONE. Both books are long out of print and sell at collector's prices. There has never been an official, complete run published until now. This beautiful edition includes plenty of bonus material such as recently discovered early drawings of the BONE characters, essays and interviews. Softcover, 12-in. x 9-in., 304 pages, PC/pB&W. Cover price $30.00.
