In Shark Years I'm Dead TPB (2006 AM) Sherman's Lagoon Turns Fifteen 1-1ST

    1st printing - Includes Years 2001–2005

Story and art by Jim Toomey.

After ten book collections and a treasury, great white shark Sherman and the Lagoonies celebrate 15 years of life under the sea with this new collection of creator Jim Toomey's daily cartoons and full-color Sundays. In an imaginary lagoon near the island of Kapupu in the South Pacific lives a group of nutty but sophisticated underwater creatures-complete with neuroses that rival those of humans (also known as "hairless beach apes"). Their wet world, oddly enough, is not so different from our own.

Rounding out the aquatic crew are Fillmore the turtle, geeky fish Ernest, and macho hermit crab Hawthorne. Salty old Captain Quigley, who lost his leg to Sherman years ago, is hell-bent on seeking revenge against the shark. Sherman and friends effectively reflect human behavior and occasionally must confront humans' encroachment on their unspoiled habitat. Activist groups have applauded this comic strip with a social conscience for promoting marine conservation.

    (see more images)

    1st printing.

Story and art by Jimmy Kugler. Compiled with an Introduction by Michael Kugler.

Near the end of World War II and after, a small-town Nebraska youth, Jimmy Kugler, drew more than a hundred double-sided sheets of comic strip stories. Over half of these six-panel tales retold the Pacific War as fought by "Frogs" and "Toads," humanoid creatures brutally committed to a kill-or-be-killed struggle. Michael Kugler reproduces the never-before-published comics of his father's adolescent imagination as a microhistory of American youth in that formative era.

Also included in Into the Jungle! A Boy's Comic Strip History of World War II are the likely comic book models for these stories and inspiration from news coverage in newspapers, radio, movies, and newsreels.

Story and art by Scott Adams.

Office politics, management trends, corporate bureaucracy, oppressive work spaces, and inscrutable jargon are all targets of Scott Adams's darkly goofy satirical pen. Dilbert strikes a deeply resonant chord with cubicle squatters and corporate drones with its dead-on reflection of the realities of the white-collar workplace, even with its off-the-wall delivery.

This collection features Adams's personal all-time favorite Dilbert cartoons, along with his own handwritten commentary about the strips.

    Softcover, 8-in. x 10-in., 240 pages, B&W.

    Cover price $16.95.

1st printing. By Scott Adams. Dilbert is the everyman inthe down-sized, techno-centered workplace of the ninties. He's the corporately innocent engineer who experiences the absudities and oddities of office life from his (sometimes shrinking) cubicle. Complimented by his sarcastic and power-hungry dog, Dogbert (aspiring Supreme Ruler of the Earth whose secret to happiness is "High expectations and your own bag of chips"), Dilbert provides humor on one of life's most insidious subjects: work. This volume features nearly two years of Dilbert comic strips (including color Sunday cartoons) that have never appeared in book form. Softcover, 8 1/2-in. x 11-in., 256 pages, PC/PB&W.
