Characters | Superman [as Clark Kent only]; Lex Luthor; Toyman (intro); Lois Lane; Hawkgirl; Green Lantern [Hal Jordan]; Superboy [Kon-El, as a statue]; Metallo; sunstone crystal |
Synopsis | Luthor is listening to the news in his hideout when "Superman" bursts in, but it is just a new Toyman in a Superman robot shell. Luthor shows him the sunstone crystal, and says that he recovered it from the ruins of the fortress. Clark returns home to Lois, and describes his confrontation with Luthor, and his lack of powers for the past year. Later, he is on a cell phone pursuing reports of weaponry in the Metropolis subway system, and finds a hideout just off Track 13. In it are former Luthor henchmen, stealing some armor. They detect Clark and attack. Clark is saved by Green Lantern and Hawkgirl, who had been on the phone with Clark before the signal was lost. One attacker tries to destroy an oncoming train, but Clark stops him. Luthor meets up with Metallo in Metropolis Park. Hawkgirl and Green Lantern return Clark home, and offer him a Green Lantern ring. |

Notes | Story continued from Superman (DC, 2006 series) #650 and continues in Superman (DC, 2006 series) #651. A Clark Kent logo is used instead of the Superman logo. The Superboy statue with flowers under it is the first hint that Superboy will not survive Infinite Crisis (which was running concurrently with this issue). The hideout at Track 13 is an homage to Superman the Movie, where the entrance to Luthor's hideout was off of Track 13. |
