Synopsis | In the future, Lois journals the war, as Luthor's forces are fighting Khyber's forces. The fight is not going well, so Sirocco, though injured, joins the fight. Parasite dies (with Superman's love for Lois on his lips). Khyber himself joins the battle. But the resurrected Superman confronts him, dragging him above the nuclear winter clouds. He almost kills Khyber, but can't, and instead Khyber kills him. But Sirocco takes advantage of Khyber's damaged armor, and kills him (Sirocco losing his life in the process). Over the next several years, others die, with only a small population left. The sun returns in 2039, and Lois passes in 2045. Jimmy continues her journal, but is left (as far as he knows) as the last boy on Earth, and writes his final journal entry in 2056. Back in the present, Arion argues that civilization always goes in cycles, that they fall and rise again. Unless they do, if someone holds back a fall, the fall gets worse, maybe to the point of destroying all humanity. He tells Superman that he must not interfere; he must let civilization fall. |
