Synopsis | A vampire is jealous of his brother's prowess and so he bargains with a witch to kill him. The witch gives him a powder to sprinkle on his brother's wings so that they will be unresponsive when he attempts to flee the mob. He is gleeful when he returns to his parents with the news his brother has been slain as he thinks their attention will focus only on him now, but they burst into tears that they have lost two sons this night. He is informed that he has a blood disorder which requires more blood than usual and the parents thought they were unable to provide. When the brother was born, they were happy because he was so powerful, he would be able to provide enough blood for the both of them. For years, his brother had been feeding him by transfusions while he slept, as he did not want him to feel like an invalid. Out of shame, the vampire breaks off the limb of a tree and plunges it into his heart rather than experience starvation. |
