Characters | Blue Blaze [Spencer Keen] (introduction; origin); Dr. Keen (introduction; death) |
Synopsis | Spencer Keen gains strength and durability after a death-like hibernation caused by a mysterious blue blaze his father had been studying. Pencils | Harry Ramsey ? [as Harry] (signed); Douglas Grant ? [as Douglas] (signed); Douglas Ryan ? [as Douglas] (signed) |
Inks | Harry Ramsey ? [as Harry] (signed); Douglas Grant ? [as Douglas] (signed); Douglas Ryan ? [as Douglas] (signed) |
Notes | Art is signed with "Harry / Douglas" not a single name "Harry Douglas" as previously recorded. Jerry Bails' Who's Who is uncertain which of the two "Douglas"es listed was part of this collaboration. The other Harry / Douglas-signed Blue Blaze story in issue #4 looks substantially different, although whether Ramsey, Grant and/or Ryan drew this story or that one is unclear. |
Characters | Zephyr Jones; Corky Grogan |
Synopsis | Zephyr and Corky try again to reach Mars but are forced by a stowaway professor and his daughter to journey to the star Cygni instead. |
Genre | science fiction |
Script | Joe Cal Cagno (signed) |
Pencils | Fred Schwartz (signed) |
Inks | Fred Schwartz (signed) |
Notes | Last appearance. Last appeared in Daring Mystery Comics (Marvel, 1940 series) #2. Who's Who and other sources list "Fred Schwab" for this, but this is almost certainly a typo introduced somewhere along the way. The signature is clearly Schwartz both in Daring Mystery #2 and in this issue, and the Daring Mystery Masterworks volume credits the artist as Schwartz. |
