Synopsis |
Atop a hydro dam, three Challengers tackle a blue-skinned giant named Power Man. (Narration reminds us Red was killed in COTU 55.) The heroes throw fists and jokes to keep PM from the the turbines, but he’s too powerful and absorbs the power of “10,000 men”. The Challs drop a smoke bomb and split. As above, a “teen fink” in a helicopter films their defeat. They’re humiliated in every newspaper. Who is this kid, and why does he hate them?.. The kid is Tino Mannaray, rock stars and genius engineer. Power Man intrigues him… In their new sub-Pacific HQ full of alien gadgets, Prof tests the teleporter and notes it records scenes of each landing. But how to defeat Power Man, a scientist changed by an exploding cyclotron?… Power Man stalks a megawatt TV transmitter for more energy. Cops hurl gas grenades and fell him. But a futuristic car arrives and whisks Power Man away. Tino rescued PM to help kill the Challengers. They partner up… Prof sets the teleporter for 30 minutes. The Challs ‘port in on Tino and Power Man. They still can’t stop Power Man, and Tino plans to shoot the Challs for letting Red die. “Tino Mannaray” is Martin Ryan! Prof begs for his life, stalling, until the teleporter retrieves them. How to convince Tino Red died a hero?… When PM tears into a central power plant, he blacks out the entire East Coast! The Challs ‘port in, but now PM can throw lightning. The guys run, and lead him to a cliff that collapses and buries him – temporarily. Tino raises a machine gun, but Prof shows him a mini-tapeplayer: Red sacrificed himself to save thousands in Turkey! Tino feels awful, and taunts PM to chase him into the ocean. PM hits the water and – ZOT! – loses his charge. Powerless, he’s arrested. The Challs invite Tino to join the team, but he laughs at the “square uniforms” and “Boy Scout schedules”! Maybe later. |
