Synopsis | High on the rooftops, the Quasimodo-like Gargoyle broods about his ugliness. The Challengers rush him: he's wanted for burglaries. The Gargoyle bats the Challs and escapes. He lands next to a blind woman, Laura. A strange friendship begins. The Gargoyle needs a gang, so swoops and snatches escorted prisoners. The Challs must rescue the cops with a human chain. The Gargoyle decides to pay for Laura's eye operation. The Challs ambush him again. Ace swoops with a jet pack. The Gargoyle throws giant letters and almost crushes Ace with a bell clapper... Disguised as criminals, the Challs haunt dives and find the Gargoyle's hideout - and realize Laura is blind! Her landlady points to the hospital. Laura's bandages come off. She's horrified her benefactor is, not ugly, but evil! He throws her out a window as the Challs arrive and save her. The Gargoyle gets away - for now. |

Characters | Challengers of the Unknown [Ace Morgan; Rocky Davis; Prof Haley; Red Ryan]; June Robbins; The Gargoyle. |
Synopsis | June Robbins finds the Challengers arguing about how to assault the Gargoyle's castle. June cuts them off and proposes a contest to see who's leader. She gives them odd gifts: an hour-glass, a fountain pen, a balloon, a house key. What's the gag?.. Each assaults in his own way. Ace parachutes but is attacked by a robot pterodactyl. Caught in the shrouds, he uses the broken hourglass to escape. Crashing into the castle, he nails the Gargoyle... Prof attacks underwater. A minisub tries to spear him. He releases the pen's ink, but grows groggy. Ace rescues him... Red rappels down the mountain. A giant robot hand tries to crush him. He throws the key into the gears and shorts the motor. But he's knocked silly. Ace rescues him too... Rocky tries a frontal assault and meets a gorilla! He can't hurt it, so makes a balloon slingshot and whacks its eyes with a pebble. But the gorilla grabs him - until Ace punches its nose... Back at HQ, June notes that everyone used his gift, but Ace saved three lives too. He's "crowned" leader with a flower stand! |
