Counterfeit: Both sides of cover are glossy. 2) In the counterfeit, inks are slightly washed out, especially noticeable in the solid black fill areas. 3) The printing quality of the counterfeit is actually better than the original, but unless you have a copy of each to compare, this will not be evident. Cover price $1.00.

Gold Expanded Edition - Limited to 600 Copies.
Published by The Waverly Press in collaboration with Aardvark-Vanaheim. 48 pages, B&W. NOTE: I have waited 43 years to see Cerebus No.1 the way it was supposed to look. Thanks to Sean Michael Robinson and The Waverly Press that wait is now over." - Dave Sim
Story and art by Dave Sims. Art Restoration by Sean Michael Robinson.
In December 1977, Deni Loubert published Cerebus No.1, Dave Sims comic book that followed the adventures of a short-tempered, barbarian Aardvark. Originally conceived as a parody of Barry Windsor-Smiths masterfully illustrated Conan the Barbarian (which was a big hit for Marvel Comics in the 1970s), Sim quickly developed his own voice as a storyteller and illustrator, eventually abandoning the typical self-contained, single-issue adventures, in favor of elaborate story-arcs spanning dozens of issues.
The early 1980s saw the popularity of Cerebus rapidly grow, igniting a revolution among self-motivated artists and storytellers who were looking for ways to go it alone, outside of the corporate structure of the big two publishers of the day, Marvel and DC Comics. Dave Sim, by now regarded as the leading maverick in the field, helped pave the way for a new generation of self-publishers, including Kevin Eastman and Peter Lairds Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Jeff Smiths Bone, Colleen Dorans A Distant Soil, and the Image Comics revolution! Along the way, Cerebus cemented its place as one of the most intelligently written, and influential comic books of all time.
Though the series ended in 2004 with issue No. 300 after more than 6,000 pages of story and art, Cerebus still enjoys a loyal following of readers to this day. In fact, intense collector demand has driven prices of the first issue to thousands of dollars!
The Waverly Press, in collaboration with Aardvark-Vanaheim, present this groundbreaking series, from the moment where it all began, with stunning, remastered art, available in two editions. The STANDARD 24 page book reproduces the original 1977 edition as Dave Sim intended. The 48 page EXPANDED edition features the original story with an additional 24 pages of art and rarities from the Cerebus Archive, with all new captions by Dave Sim. The 48 page expanded edition comes in two cover variants, the GOLD cover, and PLATINUM signed & numbered cover. The Waverly Press editions were produced in very limited quantities and will not be reprinted or widely distributed.

1982: Seismic changes were in the air… New Wave music ruled the airwaves, Spielbergs E.T. dazzled at the box office, and the term internet was first used to describe the new international network of communication. The comic-book industry was also experiencing great change as ambitious young self-publishers started beating the drum of revolution in a long-stagnant field. Among them was Dave Sim with his creation Cerebus the Aardvark, which was rapidly growing in popularity to the point that copies of the first issue had risen from $1 to hundreds of dollars in just five short years.
December 1977: Dave Sim and his soon to be wife, Deni Loubert, printed two-thousand copies of Cerebus No. 1, and distributed them to Now & Then Books in Kitchener, Ontario, Big Rapids Distribution in Lansing, Michigan, and Sea Gat Distribution in Brooklyn, New York, establishing a clear trail of where nearly every copy went.
April 1982: Ten copies of Cerebus No. 1 were found at a flea market and sold to a comic book shop. Then twenty more were sold to the shop down the road… Then thirty more… Forty more… In all, nearly two thousand newly discovered copies of this rare and sought after book were sold to comic shops from Berkeley, California to New York City. Every single one – counterfeit.
This is the Secret History of the Counterfeit Cerebus No. 1.

Cerebus is being a total dick on the cover, but, then when isn't Cerebus being a total dick? On the cover, inside the book, at a gay bar, pretty much everywhere. After page one, it's (SPOILER ALERT) a 'Move along nothing to see here' thing as we get to the more important issue: JOBS. Can Cerebus get one? Evidently. Can Cerebus HOLD ONTO a job? NOTE: This is an 8-Disc DVD set and does not contain any printed pages. It's Cerebus brought to life (again) by creator Dave Sim! Sim's masterwork Cerebus ran for 300 issues. Starting with issue #25, Cerebus got a taste of High Society, a storyline that concluded with issue #50, and which critics and readers alike recognize as the point at which Cerebus became a vehicle for political commentary. This DVD set contains the entire DIGITAL AUDIO/VISUAL EXPERIENCE of High Society presented in multi-media format, with Dave Sim reading every issue in character... including music and sound effects. Along with each issue's presentation is a section of full Editorial Comments, also read and "performed" by Sim.
