Single Series (1938) comic books

  • Issue #8
    Single Series (1938) 8

Cover by Mo Leff. Stories and art by Mo Leff. United's anthology series presented a different comic-strip character in every issue. This issue features the classic fantasy strip Peter Pat by Mo Leff, and the "topper" strip Percy Penguin. Peter Pat is transported to the magical Pagoland, where he has Little Nemo-like fanciful adventures. The strip, narrated in captions like Prince Valiant, was the first official solo work of Mo Leff, a former assistant to Al Capp and Ham Fisher. The weekly strip only lasted a year, so this probably collects the entire run. Human foibles are illustrated by members of the animal kingdom, in the sardonic Percy Penguin. Home Towners; Peter Pat; Percy Penguin. 64 pages, Full Color. Cover price $0.10.

Berdanier was also the artist of United Features' superhero/ military strip The Spark Man, over in Sparkler Comics (1941 2nd Series). Roses; Books; Tobacco; The Dollar Sign; and 60 more.
