Stories and art by Edgar Rice Burroughs, John Coleman Burroughs, Roy Crane, V. T. Hamlin, Chester Gould, Clyde Lewis, Gaylord Du Bois, Tom Hickey, J. R. Williams, Al McWilliams, Walt Spouse, C. D. Small, Hugh Harman, and Win Smith. The Funnies presented reprints of classic comic strips, including Roy Crane's influential Captain Easy, alongside original material. Tal Hajus, the green Martian warlord, makes the mistake of attacking Dejah Thoris when John Carter is nearby, in the official comic-strip adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs' A Princess of Mars. Art (featuring pre-Code levels of violence) by John Coleman Burroughs, son of Edgar Rice Burroughs. Gene Autry and Pop Carter take on Scar Tortilla's gang to save a kidnapped Rush Carter. The debut of the comics version of Mr. District Attorney, the popular and long running radio (and TV) show. Plus a text story featuring Dick Tracy. And a "Find the Cartoon Character" game, set in the 1939 New York World's Fair and featuring the Trylon and Perisphere. This is the first appearance of Edgar Rice Burroughs' John Carter of Mars on the cover of a comic book.
