"Batman's Big Blow-Off!", script by Frank Robbins, pencils by Irv Novick, inks by Joe Giella; An underground newspaper prints the faces of four men beside Batman's face, and asserts one of them is Batman and that they will reveal his true identity in the next issue; Scribe, the writer of the article, assures his chief that even though he does not know who Batman really is, Batman will have to unmask to save the rest (including underworld kingpin Spooks Manson) from becoming gangland targets; Batman throws them a curve by going on television and unmasking, revealing himself as reclusive billionaire Howard Hayes; He does so with Hayes's permission, and the newspaper goes out of business. "Baffling Deaths of the Crime-Czar!", script by Frank Robbins, pencils by Irv Novick, inks by Joe Giella; The aging Mr. Big of the Gotham underworld, Li'l Studs, is being given a "welcome home" banquet by gangsters following a stay in the hospital; Quirk, one of Studs's competitors, has hired three hitmen to rub him out: a crack pistol shot named the Silencer, a poison-dart hurler called the Dart, and Big Jolt, a specialist in electrocution; Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson are posing as waiters to avert such a hit-attempt, and thus stave off a gang-war amongst the other mob chiefs for Studs's place; Studs indeed dies, but none of the mobsters can agree as to how he was killed, since all three of the assassins struck at the same time; With help from Dr. Jennings, a doctor who treated Li'l Studs, Batman and Robin discover the truth: Studs died of a heart attack before any of the assassins could kill him. 36 Pages, Full Color. Script by Frank Robbins, pencils by Irv Novick, inks by Joe Giella; While Batman is otherwise occupied with his involvement in a beauty televised beauty pageant where the winner gets a night on the town with Batman, the criminal known as Strack and his thugs rob different locations in the city; The next day when he realizes that he can use Batman's eligible bachelor status against him he gets his girlfriend, Cleo to back a campaign called "Women To End BATchelorhood" (W.E.B.) who would target Batman with a series of protests for single men to get married, Batman in particular; As the movement begins to gain popularity among single women, Barbara Gordon gets suspicious of the group and joins it in her Batgirl identity; As the women follow Batman all over the city, Cleo would arrive at just the right time to throw off the women and boast about how weak men are; This lack of interest in Batman makes Batman fall for Cleo, all the while Strack and his goons manage to pull off various heists. "Call Me Master!", script by Frank Robbins, pencils by Irv Novick, inks by Dick Giordano; Batman and Robin try to stop three apparent robberies during the same night, only to find that each of the "victims" insists that a legitimate operation is going on, such as transferal of goods from a warehouse; However, all three "victims" are members of the Civic Conscience Council, as is Bruce Wayne; Bruce discovers that all the members of the Council, besides himself, have been hit by mysterious thefts, and the three "legitimate" operations last night prove to be illegitimate; Bruce soon receives orders himself from a mysterious phone caller, is compelled to open a drug storeroom at Wayne Foundation for thieves to enter and, after Robin subdues the crooks, learns that even Robin can give him a command to hit him on the chin and he must obey it; Batman and Robin notice that Myron Mycroft, the mastermind and a member of the Council, soon learns that Batman is subject to his commands; He gives Batman a phone-command to blow up Wayne Manor as a test, and witnesses Batman push down a plunger-activator after a fierce internal struggle. 36 Pages, Full Color. Alfred given a new last name, Pennyworth, in "Angel--Or Devil?", script by Frank Robbins, pencils by Irv Novick, inks by Dick Giordano; Batman stops a member of Ye Olde Avon Players from striking a girl at the back door of the Gotham Theatre, but for some reason, the girl grabs Batman's hand and enables the assailant to stun him; When he recovers, he has lost his quarry in the players' backstage; Resuming his usual patrol, he spots the girl hitchhiking and gives her a lift to her destination: Wayne Manor; The girl turns out to be Dahne Pennyworth, daughter of Wilfred Pennyworth, Alfred's brother, and, like Wilfred, a thespian with the Players; She explains that the man who tried to strike her was her boyfriend and that it was a misunderstanding.
