One-shot, June 1968. Story by Gil Kane and Archie Goodwin (listed in the credits as Robert Franklin). Penciled and inked by Gil Kane. Cover by Kane using Lee Marvin for reference. Kane's famous attempt to break comics out of their "kids" label and into the adult market, inspired by Warren Magazine's success with no Comics Code. Kane uses text captions for each panel with a limited amount of word balloons using a font with both upper and lower cases to impart more of an adult feel. He crafted a story of no-holds-barred violence, secret agents and a massive conspiracy by a mad general named Simon Mace. It even has a cameo by President Lyndon Johnson. Extremely limited distribution, scarce. 8 1/4-in. x 11-in., 50 pages, B&W. NOTE: Fantagraphics reprinted this as Gil Kane's Savage. Cover price $0.35.
